wheel size

I have a 2001 Grand Prix, the stock wheels are 16"s. Can I switch these to 17"s without modifying anything else, or will I have to adjust the suspension? Will it throw off my speedometer/odometer? Will the larger wheels affect handling at all, or the acceleration due to larger rotating mass?? Any help is appreciated, the selection of wheels opens up greatly if I can look at 17"s also. Not to mention a lot of wheel well is showing around the stock tires with the 16s.

I have 17x8's on my '02 with no suspension mods. Use caution when selecting tire size. I used to have 245/50/17 tires but they rubbed on the rear if I went over a large bump or dip in the road. I now have 225/55/17.....no rubbing at all.

Most tire and wheel places will help you calculate a "Plus 1"....meaning that they will figure out the appropriate tire size for a 17" wheel so as to not affect your speedo. Your ride will be a little bit harder due to shorter side wall tires but it's not bad at all. You will lose a little acceleration due to the greater rolling mass but the loss is negligible. If you take your car to the track, just keep the 16's for racing..

Not to mention a lot of wheel well is showing around the stock tires with the 16s.

Only way to get rid of the 4X4 look is to lower the car :wink:

Ive had the GMPP Konis on mine since they were released and have been very happy with the ride and it dosent slam the car down as much as the other kits that are offered.Here is an old pic taken in the winter of mine with stock 16in,when I first installed them on the car.Sorry its not the best pic since it was old film and the rims are silver and they look white.

The bigger the wheel/tire the harder to accelerate, to break and to handle. You will notce it more related to the break wear. The OEM Enkeis are really light.
