Is this possible?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but please entertain me. I was wondering if it was possible to put a different engine in a newer cadillac that maybe got better gas millage or was easier to repair. Is this possible?

Pretty much all GM engines are identical. Im not 100% sure on this but you could take a chevy 350 and put it into a 67 caddy cupe de ville. I went for such an older car because of all the electronics and many things are electronicaly controls if would be much easyer on a car w/o all that do da. And an engine is an engine, they are all equilaly hard to work on out of the car but the bigger cubic inches it is the hard it is to work on in the car.

OK OK look, I just cant let this get by.

For a detailed decription of why GM engines ARE NOT identical, especially through the 60's and 70's go HERE

and to answer the question YES

to eleborate, you have to be very sure that you want to get into this project, and check you local laws regarding emmissions. If you dont care about the law, you can do anything you want.

All the first few paragraphs say is that gm engines have differnt CI and have larger bore strokes. Well no shit, it doesnt say anything about how the engine mounting brackets are differnt, it doesnt say that you cant put a chevy engine into a olds, which you can. WHy? Becuase the engine mounting brackets are the same. From what I know all GM engine mounts are the same, therefor you can put a 350 into a caddy. But you might need a different tranny and all the lines would have to hook up correctly on it. But a 350 with a 350 turbo trans and a posy rear in a 92 cupe de ville would be awsome.

Ok, here ya go. This is just for you, antiburn...
Transmission bolt pattern between olds (same as caddy) and chevy is different.
Block bolt holes for the engine mounts are in a different place.
the exaust is totally different between the two cars.
So, if you dont mind overcoming these problems, then SURE ya can do it.

That article I sent you to explains very clearly that "Despite common displacements, all used different bore and stroke combinations with COMEPLETELY DIFFERENT BLOCK AND HEADS (and everything else)"
so do you imagine that with the different blocks and heads that all the bolt holes were in the same place???

not all the bolt holes, but like I said a chevy engine might not bolt right upto the caddy tranny, which you said that you cant. But the engine mounting points arnt different. With a caddy you dont really have to worry about how large the heads are since you can fit a 500ci into it.

So what your saying by "Transmission bolt pattern between olds (same as caddy)" you could put a hopped up 442 into a caddy without having any problems. I can see that. But what Im thinking is putting a different model car engine into it. Yes you can do it with some work, like you said new trans, exaust (becides why would you want that stocker exaust on there with a 350hp engine?) But the answer that everyone is looking for is, if you have the money then you can do whatever you want.

And let me guess, you think that there is an engine that is 442 cubic inches eh? lmao

No, I know there there isnt an engine with a 442ci displacement. I was thinking about the car and use the engine from that. Since your saying that olds and caddy are the same it should fit right up.
The reason I said the 442 car is because I dont know shit about olds motor sizes nor about their cars. And you can keep your smart mouth retarded comments to yourself, thank you.

LOL and you can keep listenen to em cause I gave you an entire olds FAQ to browse through and find out there wasnt a 442 engine, so you should have researched it, or said engine FROM a 442. If you wanna get on the net and spout alot of BS contributing to the rest of the BS, thats your buisness, and I could care less if you do, but I will call you on it everytime if I see it. If you dont like it, PACK SAND! lol

I dont know about you but I dont feel like reading a 30 page article about engines. I dont even know why this started becomming a minor flame war but its enough now and we can stop.

It would help to know what Caddy you currently have. If Northstar you will have greater difficulty. By the way, did anyone actually read his post?

Anybody who would want to change out a Northstar engine for anything else is pout of his / her mind. That is the best engine system around period.

Northstar is great, but not many aftermarket parts... A built 400 small block in a 97ish Eldo converted to RWD would be sweet!

The real problem is that most sovereign states do not allow swapping and older year model engine into a newer year model car. IE., you could not put a 92 pushrod engine in place of a 97 Northstar or a 78 Vette engine in place of an 80 for that matter. You can only go the other way and replace and older engine with a newer. And it must pass smog for the year engine it is. So if you put a 99 Northstar in place of an 89 it has to pass 99 smog standards. If that means extra stuff like a 99 computer and such you gotta do it. I don't think one can swap a 95 Cad engine for a 95 Chevy engine even and be legal in most states. Ah, at least 3 of my cars don't have to pass smog check crapola!
