I'de like to put a pretty decent system in my 96 4dr blazer so wanted to get some more-expert-than-i advice. I don't want to fill up the back with a speaker box but I'de like to have some good bass but mostly concerned about having a nice clear sound than loud. What would be a good combination of speakers for the dash, front and rear doors? I've got a Pioneer 50x4 deck right now that I'm really happy with so unless it would really benefit me to get a different deck I'de rather not replace it. Thanks in advance

I've heard of people actually modding their doorpanels to put speakers up higher in the square area above their factory speakers. This would be a sweet mod if you don't mind hacking your door up. I don't know about you guys but I hate how the quality of sound depends on how I rest my legs.
By the way- I only have the factory 4 speakers so treble frequencies are always muffled by my pants.

Well so far I have a set of Blakpaunt 61/2's in the doors with bass-blockers on those, then I have a pair of 6x9's JBL loudspeakers in the back that are sitting in foam inserts. Then i've got 2 12's in a competition bandpass box that are 300w each. I've gotta get the foam inserts for the speakers in the door and put bass blockers on the speakers in the rear. Ultimatley I'll replace the speakers in the dash too and add a set of tweaters in the A-Pillars. I've got a KenWood KDC-MP822 for a deck and its pretty sweet. For you're setup I'd recomend going to www.crutchfield.com and check out what they have. They gave me a free year subscription to car and driver for free for shopping with them too. Also, they give you all the required installation stuff too, usually for free. -Peace

I have a 92 s10 blazer with 2 mtx thunder 6000 12s in a medium sized box. It takes up bout half of my cargo area and gives me a headach when listening to lil john, and im a bass head. so if ur not a bass head i would say get one 12 in a cutom box. That should give u enough bass with plenty of space. BTW it dont take much to make an ol blazer thump, summin bout the way they are built!

Yeah, I've heard of sites that offer bass boxes that fit right over the wheel wells in the back and totally match the stock look.
Besides a new headunit (no factory cd) I have a huge ported boombox with see through lexan (the speakers are housed inside) with 2 JBL 12's in it. I got it off a punk kid who probably stole it for only 50 bucks. I bought a used pioneer amp (760W, but being an EE, it's all about ohms) off ebay for 75 bucks including shipping. I didn't go cheap on the walmart cables. I used only high quality Rockford Fosgate 1 guage power wires and signal cables - another 50 bucks.
I don't listen to rap except to show off but I have a very clear, responsive yet ear shattering sweet system for 175 bucks. 2 12's is alot of bass for a hatchback SUV. Just look around and find what you want!

Im rolling with a simple but powerful system.
Sony Xplode 1200w amp
15" Volfenhag Dual VoiceCoil 1200w
Nice Type 4 bandbox enclosure.
Costs around 500 dollars easy on ebay for the parts.
I have the amp bridged and its putting out 1200w safely..
I set car alarms off with it ;-). Also once after pumping some music i came home, took a shower, got out cleaned my ears out with cotton swabs and found alittle blood (probably dont wanna go that crazy tho).
Gotta love SUV's.. Go blazer!

Deck is fine, what you are seeing a problem from is the fact that the door speakers stock I believe are 6 or 8 ohm where as your new deck is setup for 4 ohm speakers.
This results in poor and quiet sound and nothing compared to what you could get from your deck.
Go to your local bestbuy or EBay and get a speaker with a compositie cone.
Here is my system if you need my thoughts on how much I know about wiring a Blazer:
