hey guyz im new to the mitsubishi forum and so i dont know the in's and out's of what engines u can swap and all that, but neways my firend has an 02 eclipse 2.4gs and she really wanted the gt but couldnt afford the insurance. And she comes to me to make her cars fast and so i was thinking that one could just put a 3000gt engine in the clipse since they are both 3.0's and both FWD (except the VR-4) and i heard that the eclipse's 3.0 is a sohc so i would rather go with the dohc from the 3000gt. Or are the 2 cars/engines too different?? Is there a big differnce between the sohc and dohc power wise? I guess i was just curious to see if it has been done or could be done.

just turbo the 4cyl and maybe swap a dohc 4g63 setup onto the 4g64, makes good power and you'll have more room in the engine to play w/ piping than a vr4 motor would

whats the diff between the 4g63 and the 64????? i dont know the engine code names for mitsubishi all i know are the sizes....turboing is easy yea...but what i was gonna do is throw the 3.0 and twin turbo it like the vr-4 but with aftermarket turbos instead....might be a tight squeeze but would be nice afterwards

4G63 - 2.0L DOHC - offered factory turbo from '90-'99 DSM
4G64 - 2.4L SOHC - stock engine in GS

ahhh so swap the 63 head onto the 64 so you have a dohc 2.4. ....wait i thought the 2.4 were already dohc's??? so then what are the engine codes for the v6's....is the v6 the same in the eclipses as in the 3000gt??? is the eclipse gt a v6 sohc??? and the 3g gt a DOHC??? or could you do a similar head swap on the v6 as you can do on the 4g64?.....im trying to learn this shit fast so i can go engine hunting....im used to hondas and nissans....just learning the mits now....thanks for your patience

can't do that head swap because the bolts don't match up....i checked.. :-/, keep your engine, swap dohc onto it, and turbo charge it, you'll have much more potential than cramming the dohc 6g72tt into the eclipse and less weight too
4g64 is sohc, and like i've mentioned before turbo dsmers do a 4g64 hybrid w/ a dohc head and reap massive power gains so definitely go that route
you might have to change your ecu as well :-/ don't kno

theres no money left taking the hard route, i'm sure anything is possible given the appropriate funding, but it will cost more than its worth and it is much more cost efficient to do it the easy way... MUCH more cost efficient
