'89 Chevy Suburban w/ diesel motor

I've got a chance to buy one for less than $2000. My question is how long do diesel motors last, how many miles, are they decent for short trips, or are diesels a pain to start and/or cold-natured? I'd sure appreciate somebody's advice! By the way, Hi y'all! :icon16:

It all depends on the maintenance it has received over its lifetime.
They can go 3-400,000 miles, maybe further.
They are fine for short trips.
They start fine in cold weather provided everything is in working order. Mainly the glow plugs.

MAINTENANCE,miantenance is the key to keeping a deisel alive they do require a little more pm but if they are kept up they are workhorses
