What is obdi stand for.. i'm trying to research some tegs for the right one to get.... please help me out here

OBDI i think is a level of required self-diagnostics that specifies that things that make emissions exceed the standard be reported to driver through the engine check light. My brothers 95 Civic i think has this problem, cause his engine light never goes off, when their's nothing wrong with his car.
