I just found out what the rattle in my 93' turbo was, if any of you remember my last thread. The Cat has two brackets with four bolts that hold it on to the block. Well of the 4 bolts that hold it in place there was 0 there. Not good. the cat was hanging from the turbo. So to my VSV question. I took the cat off and knocked out all of the ceramic inside to free the flow.Looking for a little more performance. I was also going to disable the VSV. Is this wise. Will it give me any benifit. The car is stock and am only starting to make so mods. Thanks for any help you may have to offer.

There is a VSV and a TVIS.

If you, in fact mean the VSV, you are going to make yourself stuck in LOW boost and kill your performance.

The VSV is a bleeder. It allows off excess air pressure from getting to the wastegate actuator to "allow" for boost (9 ~ 11 psi).
Under certain circumstances (cold engine, cold ambient temps, etc...) the VSV activates and does NOT let the air bleed so the wastegate opens sooner giving you low boost (7 ~ 8 psi).

If you disable it, you will be stuck in the low boost mode unless you add a boost controller.

The TVIS system is probably not a good idea to disable until you get to real big power, psuhing lots of air.

I was asking about the VSV but apparently I thought it did what the T-vis does. I have read a little about the t-vis but I was told you don't get full boost in first and second gear due to the system. That didn't sound correct to me. It is a safety system when the car is cold right. Any way I left it alone. The rattle I had is gone. but have a bad exhaust leak. I may have a cracked exhaust manifold. Any suggestions on headers or should I just replace the manifold. thanks

The exhuast leak would affect your boost.

Generally speaking, you can't make full boost in 1st, mabye 2nd depending on what psi you are running. There isn't enough load on the engine in lower gears to make full boost.

I would just get a factory manifold.
There are aftermarket tubular manifolds out there, but they all tend to crack.

I have heard that the tubes crack. I was hoping that the was a better solution then the stock man.

I am not having boost problems. I just was trying to do as much a possible while I had everything torn apart. I have a stainless down pipe coming in from Miami. $300. I heard that it is a good price for a 3" stainless. I have ordered new gaskets for the man, turbo 2 man exc. I am worryied that the turbo and or associated hardware was damaged seeing that I have been driving around for about 60000 miles with out any support for the cat.
