Where can I find an aftermarket adjustable distributor for my 97'? The hold down tab is broke and oil is spuing down the side of my block. The tab is back in place and the distributor is held down with a zip-tie (I are a red neck). I don't know how long it will last, but I don't want to replace it with the stock non-adjustable distuributor.

HI, THE DISTRIBUTOR ON YOUR JEEP IS NON-ADJUSTABLE AND IS CONTROLED BY THE COMPUTER. YOU'RE STUCK WITH USING STOCK PRODUCTS. REPLACE IT BEFORE YOU RUIN IT ZIP TIES AREN'T MADE FOR THAT. DALE [email protected] :nono:

Thanx Dale. Since I was replacing the distributor I was just hoping to be able to advance the timing a few degrees (MORE POWER), but I'll bite the bullet and buy a factory rebuilt. And for the record: ZIP-TIES and DUCT TAPE will help get you home.

duct tape is our friend
i had a friend break a rear ujoint on his old 69 gmc pickup
used a roll of duct tape to tape to hold things together and nursed it home
he took a picture because he said no one would believe it otherwise
he said it wouldnt have worked if the truck wasnt a standard tho


also even if you did manage to adjust the timing at the distributor the computer would just compensate and put it right back where its supposed to be :D

When I first got my '88, I gave it a tune up. I broke out my timing light, hooked her up and proceeded to twist the dist to get a few degrees of advance out of it. As I twisted I noticed no change in timing, so I kept twisting, and twisting and twisting. Advance-retard-advance-retard. I kept thinking "whatthehellsthematterwiththisthing!" I found out later that it's not adjustable in this manner.

The new distributor and gasket are in place. No more zip-tie. Thanx for the input.

Good old Duct Tape. You be surprised how much duct tape is used in Nucelar Power Plants!!
