1998 Vortec 350 Intake Manifold

I recently replaced the coolant connector on the stock intake manifold of my 1998 Chevrolet Vortec 350, but when I did I tightened it down too much and cracked the lower intake manifold. Until this happened I had a pretty good record of not being an idiot. However, I guess it was inevitable that I would revert back to my true self. :banghead:

Anyways, I checked with the dealer about a replacement and they wanted $600+. I thought that was excessive and tried to buy two different ones on Ebay for about $60. However, both times I was outbid. Since I am not having any luck on Ebay I was thinking about buying an aftermarket intake like an Edelbrock.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should buy? I am not interested in hot rodding. I would like it to perform well for the highways and towing.

Sorry to hear about your problem. We all do dumb things. I was looking around on the edelbrock website and I couldn't find a stock replacement intake. That doesn't mean they don't make one, I just might not have been able to find it on the website. If they do, one in the idle-5500 rpm range would be ideal. If not, I would keep trying with ebay or maybe a salvage yard. Keeping it stock if you liked it that way. Good luck!

The fact that you where outbid twice may void your commet about you being an idiot. Why is there such a competitive bidding on a engine part that is supposed to last a long time. Could it be that these are cheaply made junk (like General Motors cast aluminum door handles, or that cheessy plastic upper manifold). A die cast intake manifold... what you need to make parts like this cheap, inferrior material. So why does the cost of vechicle inflate so much every year? There saving a fortune on crappy OEM parts. Oh I think maybe it's for more pocket cash for the upper management executives....No that would never happen in american corporations......LMAO

Try DORMAN, they make replacements for the 3800.

Thanks Guys. I decided to use a product called Quick Steel to repair the crack. I figured if it didn't work I was only out a few bucks and a little bit of time. I put it on this weekend and to my surprise it is not leaking anymore. Hopefully my quick fix will last.
