CVT Tranny

Hey, I drive a 98 civic with a CVT tranny and I just took it into the shop cuz I was having serious problems...I've been reading alot about these problematic transmissions and I really don't know what to do. I'll probably have to replace it, but I don't want to just put in another CVT and end up changing it out 5,000 miles from now. I read somewhere about putting an EX tranny in...can someone tell me if its even possible to do? Is it a good idea?
