ok well winters comeing and its time for a winter car now i can either buy my friends 1990 ford probe (yes i know its a pos ford) for 350 bucks or my other friends 1990 civic hatchback for prolly 400 bucks which one does everyone think will do better in the snow.

stay american. My opinion is that you live in america, so buy american cars.

god damn i love that arguement. that ford isnt american, its mexican. guess where the honda was made. ohio or some damn place.
i would imagine the probe to be a little bit heavier than the civic, but the honda might actually last more than one winter...

I say go with the Honda all the way, it really makes you appreciate your camaro when you get it out in the spring. I drive a 90 Corolla in the winter and going from that POS to my Maro is such a good feeling.

the civic would probably be more reliable than the probe, plus you might be able to sell it to one of those import guys for 600 bucks and make a few bucks once your done with it.......

Werd up. Go buy a crappy 50 dollar muffler for the civic , Throw some stickers o it , buy a ebay 30 dollar short ram intake and sell it for like a G.
The civic would be more reliable for harsh conditions like that. Honda has always been ahead of it's time with engine designs. Especially over for. PLus everyone I know that had a probe it always had problems.

Nah man, find a muffler on the side of the road and do home depot intake

actually, if you do it correctly than it would be the same as buying an intake. the only difference being that its not metal, and doesnt have a brand name sticker on it; principles are the same though...

I will get this out of the way first...I don't mean to insult anyone by saying this. I have always felt that if you own a camaro, you should drive it year around. I understand why people up north do not drive their f-bodys in the winter but I don't agree with it, nonetheless. To me, it's like the guys that only ride their Harleys on the weekends in the spring and summer. Pride goes along way, be pround of what you drive, winter or summer. Just keep your maintinance up. We could do the same thing down here. Well I don't drive my car to the beach cause of the saltwater? WTF? That is just my opinion, my apologies if I offended anyone.

I personally invite you to come up here, to Gray, Saskatchewan Canada, where we have snow in the forecast for tomorow, and it doesnt go away for months and months, tempatures usually below -30 Celcius. and blizzards all the time with tons of snow all over the place. and try to drive my trans am through this. Ice is everywhere non stop.
PLus the road crews put salt on the highways and city roads, and the salt rusts veichles, and rust means decreased value, and more work.

Haha , no doubt. I know how that goes , I spent 6 years in Anchorage Alaska..Man that was the pits..o.O ice all the time n crap , Camaro's are no good when there is over 3 feet of snow falling in one night. Which is usually the 2nd or 3rd snowfall in alaska. The canadians know.

I've never had any problems driving in icey/snowy conditions in anyone of my cars. And don't pressume to tell me about salt and or rust, I used to live in Galveston and still have a beach house in Crystal. I know what salt does to a vehicle if you don't take care of it.

Well thank you, no flame intended, but JM is still young and might not be a real experienced driver yet either. Not saying that other vehicles wouldn't be easier to get around in by any means.

K, First of all, I am damn proud of what I drive. Secondly, the reason I don't drive my camaro in the winter is because in Minnesota we can get like 3 feet of snow overnight, so I'm forced to drive a car that is very low to the ground through that? I don't think so. Plus, every time it snows up here the shit gets packed down and pretty soon it is glare ice, so DOT puts down more salt than we have snow, and I am too proud of my car to let the salt eat it to nothing.

I dont apperciate that at all. I have driven my T/A in the winter, and i still invite whoever thinks it is driveable to come here and try. when you have 2-3 foot snow drifts oftenly, and enough ice that you could skate into town, nothing is good, but a fwd or 4wd veichle fares much better.
If you were here, and had a 25 mile commute to work each day, on a single lane highway with no shoulder, that is usually plowed last, I guarantee you wouldnt be driving your F-body. hell i drove a 83 chev 1/2 ton in the winter last year, somewhat new tires and a few 100 lb's in the back... and i rolled it on the highway at 65 km/h because of black ice. the rear end slid out on me, and that was it.

Do you know how many winters i have drove my mustang.(also my old camaro a years ago) do you know how many time i almost totaled it in the snow. how many time i put it sideways in the ditch. i dont care good of a driver you are, you are not controlling your car in that shit. thats even if you can get it moving in the snow and ice. i did this b/c i didnt have the cash to get something else. this year i have a truck so i dont have to worry about messing up my cars. but you come up north and drive in the snow with your camaro and see how you like it. if you want to keep your car, you dont do that. besides, the salt from the roads eat the shit out of cars up here. (NY) i bet ever one that has to drive their mustang, camaro, or any other rear wheel drive car in the snow says" I HATE THIS THING" when driving in the snow.

Sports cars werent designed to be drivin in the winter period. If you have to you have to but im sure any fbody or stang etc wouldnt be anyones first choice for a winter driver.

First of all, I think if you take the chance of driving your F-body on ice and snow YOUR not proud of your car and couldn't care less if it gets damaged. I don't care how much driving experience you have, it's not safe at all.

Well the way I read your posts, your trying to tell us to go drive on the snow and ice or your not proud of your car. Am I reading wrong? I mean, sure when it's a nice day out and there is no ice on the road I'll take it out, but thats it. I guess what I'm trying to get at is most of us here can barely afford what we have and we don't want to take the risk of wrecking it cuz we can afford to fix it. You probly don't understand.....talkin about your other beach house and all the money you have into your car in performance parts. Maybe you can afford to take the risk, but I can't!

Alright reconsider that, I had no way to get anywhere this past winter and this was all I had. I love my car more than any reasonable person should, ask anyone who knows me. SO I'm not proud of my car and don't give a hit abotu it for driving it in the snow? I have no other vehicle, my dad has his hyundai and thats actually pretty good in the snow; but he has a really long commute each day and he needs it. I wasn't abotu to walk all over in the winter, and my camaro actually didn't do too bad. Granted it's not nearly as bad here as michigan or canada but we get our share of blizzards and shit. I duno abotu 1st. 2nd and 3rd gens cuz I've never had or driven any of those, but my car isn't as bad as everyone thinks in the snow. It's not great at all but still got me around.

Yeah it's different if you don't have a choice, I agree. But this started off as someone asking which car he should get for a winter car so he doesn't have to drive his camaro. then 97SLVRBullet basicly said to not get a winter car and drive your camaro in the snow and ice or your not a proud owner. If you have the money to get a winter car you should deffinately get one is what I'm saying.

What I said was my opinion, you have a good car then drive it. I haven't had too many problems driving in snow. I still ride my bike in the winter, or in the rain if my car isn't running. I just don't understand the need thats all. Maybe the snow is worse there than in some of the places that I have been, I don't live there. You can get pissed all you want, it makes no difference, the point of being on a board like this is to be able to share your opinion. I did just that, I will try to force you to agree with it. I also said in several posts that I was not trying to offend anyone.
