I´d like to show you something i´m working on. This is the kit we´re talking about:
http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/61/1561/400_3935313066386538.jpg
As the title of this thread already shows, i don´t want to build a ralley car.
The detail of this kit is not bad, but very simple, so i´ll have a lot of work to get a nice model. :icon16:
First i opened up all the air in- and outtakes.
http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/61/1561/400_6464343566306462.jpghttp://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/61/1561/400_6530633335663661.jpg
Doors and front hood can be open, but too many parts are molded in one, so i decided to make a complete new interior below the front hood.
http://www.arcor.de/palb/alben/61/1561/400_3338356237396438.jpg
Here are the Fujimi wheels i´m going to use. As you can see on the right, i converted the former rear wheels to smaller front wheels.

And this is what they look like on the car :iceslolan

Good luck with the interior mods that are to come! ;)
The front wheels sit a little too high... the kit begs for a little lowering at this place.
Looking at the job you already done, sure you'll make us believe this kit is close to Tamiya's quality...

Wow, I've never seen a scale model for the R5!
Great job opening the air intakes.
Will you be putting an engine in?
Have any pics of the kit-supplied rims(showing the spokes)?
How hard will it be to convert the race interior to street?

Ah, the Renault 5, a classic. Tamiya also made a rally and a street version of this car a long time ago.

How hard will it be to convert the race interior to street?May I answer?... :D
The Heller kit has an engine! (yes, it's true!) Well, far from being to the Tamiya Enzo standards, but a good base for detailing.
For the interior, everything (almost) has to be scratchbuilt, as on the original kit the seats come with the floor, and look far from accurate...
+ the dashboard is quite simple, though a nice start to reproduce the serie 1, which had a futurist and colorfull interior. But if you want to make the opening doors look realistic, I think you'll have to shorten it a little...
To reproduce a serie 2, well... just good luck! :D
Serie 1 interior:

Serie 2 interior:

Conversion from race to street is easy. (in fact the kit has a serie 1 street interior, and not a race one, apart from the "roll cage"...). The most difficult part is to make this kit just look like a model, and not a toy...

I could copy them for you, but i think if i tell you the shipping costs from Germany to Texas, you will not be interested in them any longer. :grinno:
Let me know if you need ref. pics.
Of course, i´m allways interested in pics, thank you! What kind of do you have?
@labandabonnot
Thanks for your compliment, but from what i´ve seen so far about the Tamiya Renault 5, it is even worse than the Heller-kit.
And of course you may answer. Thank you for helping me out! ;) I never thought there would be so many replies in such a short time.
Yes, the interior detail is really nothing to be glad about. I already started cutting out the seats and closing the holes in the floor.

The engine (The R5 Turbo had a mid-engine) and everything around will get some more detail, too.

Thanks, I can see them now, don't know what the problem was. Great project, I would like to have one of those in 1:1. Good luck with Heller, but I see you have patience ;)

The only Heller kit that I´m familiar with is the PORSCHE 934 RSR Turbo and it didn´t have engine nor opening doors..:D
Very interesting build so far. I´m looking forvard to see some progres!
