TB Coolant Bypass: Anyone do it yet?

On my friends fuel injected cars (TPI, LT1, LS1), they've all done this mod, and said since it's free, it can't hurt. Has anyone done this to their honda? It's really easy on my D16A6, because all ya gotta do is unplug the 2 hoses at the bottom of the Throttle Body and connect them to a small piece of tubing, bypassing the throttle body. In effect, this will keep the TB cooler, because the HOT coolant won't be passing through it.
What's your thoughts?

i bypassed all the small coolant lines. i dont know if it made a difference, because i never drove the car before and after. i did it when i built the engine. its fewer small hoses to burst or leak.

i didn't even know that there were coolent lines going to the tb.... but why are they there in the first place??

it makes the throttle body the same temp as the motor so that water vapors dont condence on the inside of it and the manifold.

Wrong..it's actually so the TB Plate doesn't ice up in the winter. However, here in CA it doesn't get cold enough to warrant that.

to ice you have to have condensation...
What I said came out of Automotive Technology- A systems Approach 3rd edition. Its one of the ASE training books.

I got that and Automotive Service second edition both hardback, got them for free. Product rep gave them to a shop I worked at and when I quit I took them with me.

so would it be a good idea to bypass them.
ya and i don't think that the tb will freze with the heat of the engin...

so THATS what those are for eh? hmm, i thought so but wasnt sure, i didnt run any coolant lines to it yet lol

so... since i live up in canada, should it be a good idea to hook the coolant hose up??

:thefinger:
alright, do u know exactly which line it is? is it the one coming off the back of the block to the intake manifold?

That's also the dumbest thing I've EVER heard...of course, if you knew things, you'd know that ProStock cars run on about 1 quart of oil.

Lol, cause that has anything to do with??....back to the topic...if you were to bypass the coolant for the TB it wouldn't do anything for you but make it harder on the engine during winter.

What about the two lines that go to that sensor on the back of the intake mani?

That sensor you mean the IAVC I assume. I wouldnt bypass the coolant lines. Once the car warms up that's what makes you car idle lower. You can however take a resistor and bypass that sensor so your idle goes by the idle screw only.

i have a skunk2 manifold and i only have an idle air control valve. no coolant controlled idle for me.
