I have 1993 JGC 4.0litre, automatic, np231. Transmission is very sluggish on upshifting. Fluid recently changed, old did not smell burnt. What is wrong with this transmission? Anyone have experience converting one of these over to manual trans? AX-15

93 and 94 SE models had the option of the manual so it is possible to convert, but it AINT worth it. the time and money involved considerably outweighs rebuilding your auto.

I did a conversion years ago on a Chevy. Like cape says it aint worth it tremendous amount of work. On the upshift problem Possiblities are=
Fluid level Low
Throttle Valve Cable Misadjusted
Overdrive Cluth Pack Worn
Faulty Tps = Should Throw a Code if it
Overdrive Cluth Bleed Orfice Plugged
Overdrive Solenoid or Wirring shorted
Overdrive Check valveMissing or Stuck
I had this problem on Chevy Truck and put a shift kit in and solved the problem along with a new boost valve. Im not sure it will work in your TRANS!
