can the D16 head out of a 92-96 civic, swap on to the d16YB? if so, what all do i need. both are SOHC VTEC.

The '92-'95 Civic EX SOHC VTEC motor is the D16Z6. The D16Y8 came in the '96-'00 Civic EX's. They're both essentially the exact same motor. The D16Z6 is OBD1 and the D16Y8 motor is OBD2. That's really the only difference. They both have the same HP and torque.

Probably all you'd need is the ECU from the D16Z6 and to find a way to covert to ODB1. Honestly, I say stick to what you have. They're the same thing.

no, im swapping because the D16Z6 head has been ported and polished. so what would you stick with now?

um, ok, i want to know if a ported and polished head from a D16Z6 will fit in the place of a D16Y8 head.

yes, but no point. port and polish won't gain you that much unless you have some other high hp mods.

actually there is a difference between the d16z and the d16y8. the d16z is a higher flowing head and has less restrictions for fuel economy, and if your head is ported and polished even better. For d series info, go to d-series.org, you'll get a lot of info there.
