Dome light

I have a 98 K1500 with the domelight from hell. When I shut the truck off the domelight comes on and won't turn off The only way it will turn off is to actually start the truck or turn the key on and push the dome override button. The door switches are ok and everything works fine until I turn the truck off. When the dome light goes on and off there is a click under the dash which I traced to the remote keyless entry module. It just started doing it and I am leaning toward the headlight/domelight switch or the keyless module. Anyone have any other ideas or reccomendations ?? TIA

Are you absolutely sure that the door switches are good?
I have repaired a few of these and every time it has been the switches. They appear to work fine when the engine is running and everything is fine, however, I believe you will find two switches. One in the door post and one on the side of the dash.

As said in the other post, door switch, door switch, replace both!
If it was a Suburban, eventually you would replace 5 !!
Common thing....!

I replaced the switches and it still does it. I have also replaced the headlight switch. I am thinking it is the remote keyless entry reciever because if I play around with the remote I can sometimes get it to work. I also unplugged the reciever and plugged it back in and it seemed to work for a little bit.

I only have switches in the side of the dash and they are new now and it still does it. I think it is my remote keyless entry reciever, But am not positive so I have not paid the $100.00 for a new one yet.

Now you have me wondering, identical dome light from hellp. Same click I had, but my switches seemed good, but when I replaced the right front door switch everything worked normal again. Been 7 months now.
Let me know when you get it cured please!
Oh, another thing. When truck was running, if you touched your brakes, or moved the power seat the interior lights would flash for a split second. Or if I started to put the power window down or up, it would flash the int. lights.

I wonder if it is possible if one of the new switches is bad // I have had other electrical parts bad out of the package. Maybe I will spend $8.00 and try a new one and switch it from side to side. Worst thing that could happen is I would be out $8.00.

Redlion, One of the new switches was bad. I replaced it and it seems to be working now. Thanks for the help.

I'm surprised myself, as I had the same exact problem in my 96 Z71, mine ended up being my keyless entry module. I ripped it out and substituted it's functions with an alarm/remote start from Audiovox. I tore into the module to find that the dome light keyless entry relay was faulty. I would check that the dome light went off at night before I went to bed, and the next morning it was on again. I CLEANED both door switches and they had a little oxidation built up on them. Everything works great now. I was wondering if the problem was limited to me or not... Now I know.
