I ahve a 1996 VW Trek. (Jetta). It has 123k miles and I want to know what weight of oil I should use. The temperature here changes often. below 30 degrees at night and above 60 in the day. I was told 20-50 but that is way too thick. I was thinking 10W-30 or 5W-30. Need advice. Thanks!

If The Price Of Oil Isnt An Issue I Would Go With 0w-40. Thats All I Use In My Passat And No Problems Due To Oil. I Highly Recommend Synthetic

Just a question: why does VW reccomend these odd oil weights? Isn't 0W-40 too thick for winter time?
