Hey guys. I am a newbie and need some advise. I own a 2002 Focus ZX3 with a couple of bolt-ons. I really love it, but I would like to have a fun little project vehicle and something to save miles on my Focus.
Here is the deal. I have an opportunity to buy a 91 Civic DX for $100. The body is in great shape, a little rust on the passenger side rear wheel well but thats it. It has 185,000 miles on it, but I am not to worried about that because in the spring I would like to drop a B16 in it. I just need it to get me through the winter. The drivers side motor mount is toast, and the radiator has been pushed up about 8" (he drove over a deer). Oh yeah its also a 5 speed (like I would want anything else).
Eventually I would like to swap a B16 into it, and put the usual bolt-ons on it and kind of fix it up into a real nice sleeper. Do you guys think I should go for it?
Thanks in advance for your help

um well for only a 100 bucks yeah!!!!!!!
besides the fact its in an accident the body has minimal rust---which is hard to find with our cars...
but id say YEAH go for it!

$100 is excellent sounding. I say go for it all the way. And even if it's for a winter car, it's perfect for a swap and possibly a complete build-up. And the rust on the fender is normal on any civic. But is it a 4-door or hatchback?

definately go for it dude, that stuff you mentioned is very fixable. You CANNOT beat a car for $100.

Umm.. I'd have to say yes, but only because people who don't own 91 DXs suck.

thanks for the advise guys. It is a hatchback. I guess the only reason that I am a little tentative is because I dont know anything about hondas. But this is a great site and I have already learned a lot.
I think I am going to buy it and just get it running so that I can drive it through the winter, then come spring I will start moding it. I am sure I will be needing your help!
Thanks

Me again. I also found out that the cv shafts are clicking, so I will need to replace those, is that a big deal to fix?

its not to hard to change them out, but if ur going to do a swap in the spring i would try to find 1 (or both if needed) from a junkyard or something. u will need diff half shafts when u do the swap, if u can limp some old ones for the winter that would be ur best bet

CV joints or driveshafts are a pretty common problem. They're cheap and quite easy.
Honda has toothpick driveshafts and hardly any acceleration while the wheels are turned will cause the CV joints to start clicking after a while.
I'm real easy on the gas when the wheels are turned and I've had good axles with little to no problems with them in quite a while. But when I was younger and didn't know better I would break them all the time.
