Clunk in rear over bumps

2001 LS V8, 29K miles, dealer replaced end links on rear sway bar. Still have noise. Test drove with s.manager and wrench, only tech heard the noise. Over even the slightest bumps you hear a clunk. We had it up on hoist and sway bar bushings on cross member slightly worn but not much movement in bar.

The right rear shock is weak but not leaking, everything else is tight. They are going to use chassis ears to narrow down. If any LS owners have suggestions let me know. We've being driving vans and 4WD since about 1985, first car as daily driver for awhile. Please no comments about buying a GM.

Are you the original owner?

Curious if they might have removed the gas tank or if any half shaft work has been done in the past. I hate to ask but what about the jack and spare tire?

Yep, I've gone through it pretty close, battery and spare are tight. Re-torqued lug nuts to 100lb's, checked all the bolts I could reach, fuel tank is tight. These are complicated suspensions, I'm used to working on my Excursion, leaf springs and solid axle.

I bought the car for my wife. It had one owner and a clean record from what I can tell. I drove LS's with up to 100k miles before I found this one. No hesitation on take off, good brakes, mint car. No other problems. It was from a Ford dealer that we do alot of business with so I think they will solve it. They deal with me pretty straight forward.

Just thought that some fellow LS owners could shed some light on this. Thanks for any help.

heave you searched edmunds.com? A lot of the original owners of the vintage still post there and I think there are about 15k post in all. If you are not familiar with edmunds.com follow this link.

http://www.edmunds.com/apps/townhall/welcome.jsp?tid=edmunds.e.townhall.globalheader..6 .*

if the link doesn't work just go to edmunds and click on the forums tab. then type in the search box Lincoln LS

Good luck. I will search alldata for any tsb for rear end issues. I will post my findings if any.

Sounds like the stabilzer bar bushings to me. Known problem. Might even be a TSB on it.
