I have a 2000 v6 and whenever I put the manual transmission into reverse I get a nasty grinding sound :banghead: .It is driving me crazy!!
Once I get it into gear it sounds fine its right when I move the shifter into reverse. I took it to a mechanic and they said the transmission was sagging so they botled it back up but it still grinds....

I have always known to go 1st and then reverse but since when do you have to engage 2nd gear?

your syncro may have gone bad, not a tranny guy so cant tell ya how to fix it. but it should be a pretty strait forward deal for a dealership.
