Ram Transmission

I posted on this already and got two responses that had nothing to do with the problem. I have a 98 Quad cummins turbo dually with auto trans. The check engine light comes on at different times, but when I check the codes, there are none showing. When driving at different speeds, the transmission will up shift and then down shift by it self. It happens at times at 50 to 65 when I start to step down on it. Does anyone have any idea of what to look for, or has anyone had same type of problem?

We own a 98 Dodge Ram1500 - Purchased a few months ago (97,000)--
Very happy, no problems, Until: about 1 month ago - Husband decided to do a tuneup: (Distr.cap for spark / Rotor / Plug Wires / Plugs / PCV / Air Filter) Then came the Tune up TEST DRIVE (Ran rough) --- within 1 day or so, took Trk to dealership - They replaced intake manifold gasket ($700.00)-claimed that after tune-ups, fast accelerating commonly (due Over Overbuse/wide open on test drive) blows intake gasket--So, no choice but to accept their diagnosis (which I'm now wandering if a MISTAKE wasn't made)---NOTE: got the trk back---NO CHANGE: (Still running rough ?)
1) Got Trk back---Check Engine Light came on & off for a couple wks (1 hr / 30min's / no pattern)---
2)- Normal driving, redlight to redlight--hard to detect or notice a change
3) @ speeds of 65-75mph (interstate) passing other vehicles , it surges, skips, idles rough --- When speed is reduced, it stops.
Well, finally got around to taking trk back to dealership on 10/11/04.
1) @ dealership now, for 2 days (all kinds of test) they are not able to identify an exact problem or cause
2) Jury still out
I am doing internet research and have several ideas:
We could suggest and suspect many areas as the cause:
But......Nothing wrong with truck until TUNE UP, so my focus (will stay on the simple / inexpensive solutions) instead of Guessing by the mechanics 10/13/04 --
****(Keep in touch, sounds like we might have the same problem)****Our Email is ([email protected]) ---- not very good with computer sights (like trying to return & lost....) so pls. Email us for more info & send Info to us if you have ideas for us.
a) Questions: Dealership hasn't mentioned Fault code stored on computer -- The test are not indicating problem (Now, I'm baffled) I thought that the computer stored Fault Codes when Engine Light appears---???? (we haven't asked about this yet)
b) You mentioned checking codes, & I've seen other comments where people mention their code #'s --- Is this something we could also do ourselves, or am I misundstanding the statement about codes?
I've read alot about sensors, o2 sensors, Fuel injector cleaners causing damage to sensors & not compatible, etc. ---- (will soon find the cause)
***Investigating prior to "TUNE UP" & after "Tune Up" to identify problem. It usually ends up being the least likely and cheapest (Outside the box thinking required) or FIX Everthing (Hit or Miss)---- EMAIL ([email protected])

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram and use Fuel Power by Lube Control. Only injector cleaner recommended by Terry Dyson of Dyson Analysis....FP will not hurt sensors!

I am pretty sure there is a pcm update for this concern. What you are experiencing is erratic converter clutch engagment. Take it to a dealer and have them check it out.
