Swap DRL lights?

My turn light lamps have this substitute for the daytime running lamps and I want to know if anybody is willing to swap their DRLs with these "plugs" I think all we would need to trade is the harness (mine as none) and the connector, anybody??? I have a picture but for some reason I canīt post it. (must be cause I donīt know the code)

yahoo!! I know how to do it now! I want to remind everybody that this is a factory setup, made to cancel out the DRL for countries that donīt require them by law, it will fit right into your turn lamp.

Hey, thats not bad looking. I've deleted mine, but the bulbs are still in there, and I have them hooked up to a Wig-Wag box, so..I'd get me some plugs if it wernt for that.

im a little confused. what exactly did you do? just take out the DRL bulbs and stick a plug in their?

I'm with Nigel. I'm a little confused myself but, from the picture it looks like you've just plugged the bulb hole?
I saw something cool the other day a guy had changed his DRL's to Orange. He went by me the other day and I only had about a 6 seconds to check it out. At first glimpse it looked pretty cool, I'm kinda tempted to try it.

I have done that to mine. All you do is replace the 3157 bulb with a 3157NA, like the parking light uses. I've seen blue LED bulbs that look swwwwwwwweeeet in there.

Yeah, except around here if you find a Cop on a bad day they'll fine yah for it.

These lamps are for EXPORT trucks, not meant to be sold in the US, GMs cheap bastards donīt put the bulbs in from the factory if the truck is to be sold in a region where the lights are not required by law

oh..ok, got ya.
Yea, i had blue bulbs in my DRL's at one time, but i switched to hyper white. It looks sweet with the black background.

Why in the hell would a cop fine you for having orange DRL's? I thought the new GM trucks used the parking lights as the DRL anyhow?? Go figure..

Just kidding chuck. Yea, i donno why you would get a ticket for having orange DRL's. I can see maybe blue or red or something like that. I was told I could get a tickey for having white turn signals. But ive never been stopped. But you dont get stopped for much on stuff like that in Philly unles the cop has nothen better to do.:headshake

I never get stopped anymore..unless I do something stupid like pass the deputy @ 103. Now I said PASS, not meet...big difference. He was mad his little Crown Vic couldnt keep up lol. I was so proud of my triple digit ticket, but he tore it up.

Sorry guys, that's what I meant. The Blue ones would get you fined up here not the Orange ones.
Sorry to be confusing.

If you switch to the orange ones, try to find some extended life bulbs. The regular ones don't like the constant heat, because they run the bright section of the bulb, not the dimmer running light portion.

I just went outside with a multimeter and checked out the DRL relay in the control center under the hood, even though there are 12v on the relay when I turn on the ignition, the relay does not close the terminals, I swaped the DRL relay with the horn relay and the horn worked, now there is no harnes for the DRL lights, but shouldnīt the relay trip and make contact??? now I am confused.

When you turned the key on, was the parking brake on? If so, there wouldnt have been power.

I did it without the parking brake, and found 12 volts on the control side, and one of the legs on the load side, that means it could be a bad relay, but I put the relay in the horn and the horn worked, so is there another reason the relay is not changinh state??

there are 'normally open' relays and 'normally closed' relays. depending on what kind of relay the drl uses could make a difference.
normally open = 0 volts applied contacts are open / 12 volts applied contacts are closed
normally closed = 0 volts applied contacts are closed / 12 volts applied contacts are open
also in order for the contacts to keep a changed state they either need a constant supply of voltage or they need a coil.
since you do not have the harness for the drl's you may not be completeing the circuit required to hold the coil in the relay. I bet if you add the harness, with bulb, it will work properly.

Iīm looking for a harness/socket/lamp and Iīll do the install to see what happens, but if there is a DRL module that I donīt know about, Iīll have to do it without the connection to the parking brake.

does anyone know if LED's will last long as DRL's? I had Hyper White 3157's but they either burn out or actually blow up within a month or so. Will Led's work for this better? I see they are pretty costly, so i wanna find out if they will last before i buy a pair.

Oh man LED's will last forever. I know the kind I install on emergency vehicles are rated at 10,000 hours of constant use.

really.... It just seems like a lot to drop into my DRL's but it seems like i have allready speant about $50 replacing the regular ones....maybe ill give them a shot.

I put LED's in behind my A/C and Recirc/Fresh air switches. Now I'll never have to change those bulbs again and they look really trick as well. :D
FYI:
LED's run less voltage, last longer and are usually brighter. If you do a lot of Day time driving then LED DRL's are the way to go.

Will i need any type of converter to put LED's in my DRL's? I got this off the stylinconcepts site "Installation of a Load Equalizer is recommended for proper bulb performance."
Do i really need this thing or can i just plug them bitches into the factory socket?

Most LED lights for headlight replacement and DRL Replacement should have the Voltage rectifier in them. I had to implement my own for the ones I installed in my HVAC Controls. I've looked at lots of them on eBay and they all just plug straight in.

chuck16.. could you give a little more information on where to get and how to install those blue LEDs behind the A/C controls. That would be pretty sweet. Thanks.

Ok, so here goes. When I pulled apart the HVAC Control unit I found some ungodly like little tiny lights. I've never seen Lights this small in a vehicle before.
So, I removed them and tried one of my LED's that I had kicking around the shop. It lasted about 5 minutes before burning out. Turns out there was too much current there. So, I put an inline resistor in to help reduce the current going to the LED. I've had them in there now for over a month and they are still shining bright.
I mistyped earlier I don't have them throughout my dash just on the HVAC Controls for now.
Here are some pics of the installation:
http://vvv.com/~evan/pimages/HVACleds.jpg
&
http://vvv.com/~evan/pimages/HVACled.jpg
One thing you will note is, that the LEDs aren't straight up like a normal installation. Due, to the lack of room with the inline resistor and the length of the LED you have to install them then bend them over 90 degrees to fit inside the control buttons.
You should be able to pick up everything you need at any electronics shop or Radioshack.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
