-=chipped ecu on b16=-

i have a b16a in a rex and have intake, exhaust...changed the fuel filter, got a tune up, oil change, timing, new distributor (which was a b*tch to find), and ran against my friends 91 integra ls. He also has the minor bolt-ons i do. We raced and he ended up beating me by a car length 3 damn times. dat sucked. Well the problem is my vtec kicked in at 5500 and the next raced kicked in at 7500 and the last race kicked in at 5500. But when the Vtec kicked in the motor just got loud with no added push or anything. Just kept getting loud all those times. I was about to scrap the rex and go with the gsr motor until someone let me use his ecu. i think it was a pr3 but chipped. That shit pushed like hell. So would you guys in this situation just chip the ecu ( i have the pw0 ).

is there any bad or good side effects to chipping the ecu with the minor bolt ons i have or should i just go with it?

If you cant afford it....look for someone with the Mugen Program!!! and have them chip it with the Mugen Script!!!!

I'v heard that Skunk2's are good. Theres some people on the forums with ROM burners who can change fuel maps, might try to see if you can get one of them to redo your fuel maps.

haha...red bull gave him wings...hah i was planning to go mugen and they charge 100 for chipping it. bad thing is it takes 2 weeks. any bad side to chipping ecu's though..for example frying anything?!??

gas mileage will suffer somewhat because of the more agressive fuel maps.

using a program such as "mugen" or "spoon" is a guessing game at most. the maps arent designed for your engine whatsoever. your best bet would be to do some actual tuning. if anything, atleast get an air/fuel meter and try to tune your WOT fuel mapping as thats what you're using while racing.

what ECU are you using? you should not of lost to an LS integra... not even close. those cars run high 15s even with bolt ons..a b16 in an EF STOCK should run high 14s. something is wrong elsewhere that a chipped ECU will not fix unless you're runing a stock PM6 ECU or something.

whats the specifics of your setup?

I burn my own ECU chips and i've done them for Kiwi. Although it might've helped a little, usually burning a chip on an engine with only boltons gives very very mild results if any at all. Normally the only thing useful is launch control, raising the rev limit slightly to help gearing, and leaning the fuel mixture out some.

btw, you coudl've used any distributor from any MPFI OBD0 car. I have a d16a6 distributor on my b18a1 and a friend has a d16a6 distributor on his b16a. YOu just have to modify the legs a bit.
