My son's 90 iroc will not start. We have changed the starter, took off the alarm and changed the neutral relay switch. The battery is working. When my brother "arced the starter" it cranked but did not start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

give us some more details, like what happens when you try to start normally, does it even crank, is the security light on, have you checked for fuel pressure and or spark?

so, it wont turn over or start??
It sounds like a VATS problem.. But I am just about positive Camaros didnt use VATS until 91'.. Does your key have a small metal pellet in it?
When you turn the key to ignition do you hear the fuel pump come on?
Ide look into the ignition switch

When turning the key, nothing at all happens. It doesn't crank at all. There was an installed alarm but that has been totally removed. There is spark but I am not sure if he has checked for fuel pressure. Thanks for all your help. Hope someone out there knows alot more than we do...

not sure about the key, I don't think so. Will check that. I will also have him check to see if the fuel pump comes on. It had been running fine, pulled into the driveway, turned it off and then it would not start.

it would crank if it was the fuel pump, is there any power inside the car, any dash lights, radio etc...

See if you have 12 volts at the wire going to the starter soliniod when you turn the key...
Does the starter even click ?

how do you know if you have 12 volts at the wire? It doesn't even click, as far as we can tell all of the wires are connected and tight. He is changing the ignition switch as I type...

well.. you haveto climb under the car with a wire tester and connect it to the very small terminal on the starter solonoid (the one with the wire connected to it) and have someone turn the key over.. Careful your not near any moving parts..
If there isnt power there, the problem most likely lies in your ignition.. If there is power there (which I doubt) Than your starter solonoid is bad..

No VATS had been an option since 89- may or may not crank- See here
http://www.sethirdgen.org/vats.htm
A VATs key had a chip"Resistor" smack dab in the middle.
There is also a VATS fuse I belive.
You CAN NOT jump the starter and start the car without the VATS KEY.
Took off the alarm ?? I bet you even $$ there is a kill switch or another starter interrupt somewhere-
Just clip a test light on the wire (purple) the one small one on the solinoid and a good ground. Turn the key to run.
I would take the wire of the solinoid incase at some point it does get power the engine will crank.

My son had a security system put on the car. That is the alarm we took off. He had to work today so we are hoping to give all of the suggestions you guys have given us a go tomorrow. Again, thanks so much

you pissed off the VATS system. they can go without warning. there are two very small wires connected to the ignition switch, when they break, the computer no longer gets a signal from the key, and therefore the VATS system disables power to the crank and ignition circuits.
a quick fix is to test the resistance of the pellet in your key, and buy a resister of the same ammount. find the small two plug connector at the base of the steering column, and put the resistor on the harness side of the plug. this should fool the computer into thinking the key is being read and you should be able to start the car.
