91 s-10 won't start

My 91 s-10 went in the shop because it was stalling out at low speeds, & when I switched gears unless I kept my foot on the gas. First they said it was a radiator leak, so they fixed that. Then it was the knock sensor. Then it was the wiring harness. They couldn't find a wiring harness so they repaired it. Then it was supposed to be the fuel pump. Now the damn thing will not start. They say there is no power to the A6 wire?
Someone help!

Go to a different mechanic for god's sake.
They are complete morons and a radiator does not cause an engine to stall.
Go to another mechanic ASAP!
Also, do a tuneup with the following:
New Fuel Filter
New Cap & Rotor
New AC Delco Spark plugs gapped properly
New Air filter.

It is probably a good idea to report that garage to AAA, and the Better Business Bureo

Have you had the truck properly timed?
Remember, you have to disconnect the timing wire from the PCM to set the timing properly.

No, it is at top dead center.
BlazerLT
10-18-2004, 10:13 PM
So you haven't timed it properly with a timing gun?
itlrose

no the guy set it top dead center. it will not start to time it with a gun

the fuel pump yes

Have you checked for spark going to all of the cylinders and check for the injectors firing fuel into the intake?
itlrose
10-18-2004, 10:30 PM
all have spark & there is fuel to the intake

Then it is a timing problem.
Check the oil for excess fuel in it and have them check the timing with a timing light with the timing wire disconnected from the PCM under the glove bos.
It is a beige and brown wire.

they said they can't do it with a light unless it will start
BlazerLT

They can check it without it being started. All they need is spark going to #1 wire.
Sounds like your garage are a little bit inept and I would consider a second opinion.
Other than that , you might have a bad PCM.

how do you do it without the truck running
BlazerLT
10-18-2004, 11:49 PM
You turn over the truck with the starter while timing it.

Let start with the basics
Remember SUCK , SQUEESE , BANG , BLOW.
The four cycles of a 4 cycle engine. Any 1 of these bad and you could have a no start.
It been awhile since I have worked on a 91 .
Is it a 4.3 tbi?? You say you have fuel and spark but it will not start.
The very first thing I would do because you said they had the dist out is to get number 1 cylinder on top dead center and see if the dist rotor is pointing to number 1 plug wire. They might have put the dist in 180 deg out.
2. while its cranking over take a fuel pressure reading and post it here.
3 also while its cranking check to see if the fuel injectors (both of them ) are paulseing with a injector tester.
This truck is known to have problems with the fuel injector wire from the injectors down past the throttle body base.
Fuel wicks up and then down the wires and eats the covering of the wires then they short out.
If still not start pull a plug and see if they are fuel fouled(gas on them real bad). If not reinstall plug and spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body while cranking and see if it tries to start.
See if you can get a block learn reading for me and the intergrater reading also. That will tell me the basic fuel mixture.
Do these tests and then post your findings

ok check to make sure the plugs are on the right cylinders ( on mine it is ass backwards from say 350 for #1 cyl then set them all up your self on engine and on distrib < mine is older v6 2.8 and #1 cyl is on pass side and runs back 3, 5 pass side and on driv side it is 2, 4, 6 and dist is set at 123456 > ) get the info and double check your timeing
