Hey all, I'm planning on purchacing an eclipse within the month but i'm stuck between an older GST and a newer GT, I like the v6 but no turbo sucks, and i dont' know if I can afford to put one in it. I like both body styles but the older ones are more cramped in side! Plz help!!! Thanks,

GST...fo sho the options are limitless w/ the 4g63 and you can boost a lot on that engine w/o replacing internals

I must agree with this man. I mean really, the GS-T comes with 210 horses straight from the factory. Much better deal. Plus, floods of aftermarket parts. :2cents:

and tons of free/cheap parts you can rip fromt the 1g's at junkyards, the injen intake alone is guaranteed to increas 11whp...wheeel horspower!! downpipe, cat-back, and bov and your easily running 14's boost control, better wheels, clutch and maybe a 14b turbo from a 1g (1-200$$) and your in the 13's........makes me sad i didn't get one

yea the gs-t is the better car when it comes to performance, but the GT looks better, is newer and a little more reliable.

Which car has a better interrior?
Sleepr awd
10-13-2004, 03:55 PM
the 3g, cd player isn't in the way of the shift knob, better looking vents, doors, more functional cuz it has 2 (yes i found two) cigarette lighter/ dc connections, backseat is much larger (ridden in both VERY noticeable difference) the horn is not 2 little buttons in the 3g but sits where it should in the middle of the steering wheel....and thats about all i have 3g rocks the interior, 2g rocks the engine
3g v6's come stock w/ 17" rims :D

Stock the 2g is faster, but if you do plan on spending some cash on upgrading, you could purchase a turbo for the 3g eclipse GT and make a lot of power.
But if you won't be able to afford a turbo for the 3g, a 2g might be the better choice

i disagree....you can spend about $2000 and make the 2g a monster. you have to spend about $5000 to make the GT a monster

Ya the Cd player is a -, I didn't like that when i drove a friends, but I also am going to college in Las Vegas which is 250 miles away from here that is about a 3.5 hour drive, depending on how fast you go ;) but that is alot of travel time maybe i should go with the GT for interrior comfort???

I was also wondering if I purchased a GS or RS could could I put a turbo in it, how much? Which is better GS or RS???

RS GS is just ur opinion...whichever feels/looks better, essentially they are the same save a few options and 15" or 16" rims

10-14-2004, 10:21 PM
so is there much of a difference in a GS with a turbo than a GST?
Sleepr awd
10-15-2004, 03:47 PM
on the older models yes a very big difference, a 420a motor will have a much harder time reaching the performance achieved by 4g63 engines under boost the 4g63 also has MANY more mods than the 420a and GReddy (as you might know) doesn't make parts for the lesser trimmed models so it only features parts for the GST and GSX models, the newer model GS and RS models essentially have a 4g63 engine on steroids and no turbo, so if you turbo it, put dohc on it, your tearing apart other cars like no other

Then wouldn't it make sense to just get a GT that a 6 so turbo that, and it whoops all ass right?
Sleepr awd
10-16-2004, 02:05 PM
except that, when boosted, the i4's seem to make just as much power (at similar boost) as the 6 AND the 6 costs more on insurance, but the new mits. have a 100k mile warranty, so getting a 6 would satisfy ur performance needs and keep the warranty hopefully

I would not reccomend turboing the 420s...lotta work per buck... the Hahan racecraft kit does make more hp than a stock gst turbo setup, but go with the 4g63. as far as the interior goes, our 2G interiors are pretty cramped and interior build material thanks to chrysler isnt as good as it should be.

I found out recently that I can't even afford the insurance on a 99 + Ins is a rip off!

thecackster: I live in Las Vegas, and yeah, insurance is INSANE here. But believe me, after a week of driving here, you'll understand why. :)

get a 95 GSX....cheap, same engine, practically same design....my insurance fell by 25% when i went from a 98 GS to a 97 GST.... i guess the year matters more than the engine type...both were spyders.

I would love a spyder, but my parents say too dangerous, and ya kinda, but so much more fun!

10-24-2004, 04:53 PM
aahhh yes. Parents. My folks wanted me to go with a 1990 Accord. :eek7: . If they are worried about overturning, tell them you can always invest in a rollCAGE (NOT a roll bar like mine, that is a purely cosmetic peice).

10-25-2004, 12:50 AM
haha ya, and that is what they are worried about i think haha, what ever, I kind of want a mitsubishi lancer evo, but they are still pretty pricy, but they are fast, lots -o- horse power stock, like 275 or somthin, the GSX is like 210. but hey ya do what you can, and the eclipse looks better

slap on an EvoIII16G with a quiaffe LSD, and youve got a lancer beater.
Sleepr awd
10-25-2004, 02:24 PM
ka ching, 2g's are easy to beat lancers and corvette's if you can do your own work and have 4$ dollars in parts to invest
5k if you must have an lsd
and thats w/o buying the car

how much is a EvoIII16G with a quiaffe LSD,
eclipsed4utoo
10-27-2004, 09:04 PM
you could probably get the turbo for like $600 and the LSD for like $1100
Sleepr awd
10-27-2004, 10:34 PM
i saw the turbo on sale for 500$ actually, the normal 16g was about 400$ somewhere...mighta been dsmtuners and the lsd will run you a good bit, don't settle for a knockoff though, they will tear the transmission apart (i.e. phantom lsd...)
and i would see about ripping a 99 GSX ECU instead of the 95, the 99 has much better gas mileage and junk, plus i actually THINK your car will last longer w/ it, not totally sure though, its merely a theory

if you have a 5spd, you could go ahead and get a new clutch. then you can have the LSD and the clutch installed at the same time. that would cut the install price in half

i doubt you'd ever get a gs/rs to anywhere near the same place as a gs-t even if you did drop a turbo in it. i've got a gs, and it is slow as hell. i still love it because i think it is one bad-ass looking car, but if you want any kind of performance i would go w/ the gs-t and put the $4000 you'd need to turbo a gs into making the gs-t even faster. just my $.02

:iagree: GSX, i'm looking at a GSX right now a 97 with about 68,000 miles. It has quite a list of mods, it's grey damn good shape from what i can see, CF hood, body kit, looks bad @$$... 13,000, i don't know if thats too much for it, i think the blue book is 10,300 or close too, but with all of the mods maybe it's worth it. I also have another problem, i need to sell my car first, :thinkerg: or do I, what would the difference be if I just got it, and then when I sell my car put all of that towards the loan, becuase the loan I'm planning on getting you can pay off early. What do you think?
But that could make the payment more!
