I have a 99 4Runner SR5 5 speed with squeaks under the hood. I have lubricated the hood hinges and used silicone lub on the rubber stops up front. Problem persists. Could it be motor mounts or suspension components? The problem goes away in wet weather.

BTW I got the pack rat out this summer. He built a nest on the intake maniford during a 4 day period it was left outside and not driven. So it is not rodents making the noise. Sounds like hood hinges squeaking especially on a slightly bumpy road.

Could the noise be in the suspension? Can you hear it when you bounce the front of the truck with your weight?

There are normally 2 rubber stops which are adjustable and inline with the hood latch and on the corner by each headlamp. These are some times adjustabe by screwing them in or out (clockwise/anticlockwise). This will raise or lower the hood height against the latch and snug it up thus preventing movement. Try also lubricating latch with grease/vaseline.

If it is a suspension squeak, there's a good chance it's the stabilizer bar bushings. They are cheap to replace. One bolt and one nut each and clean up the stabilizer bar with a strip of emory cloth under the bushings.

No noise when I bounce the front end w/o engine running. I will try raising the rubber stops on the front of the hood-I have lubed them. If no help there, I will check the stabilizer bar busings. Thank you all for your help. I will post the results to follow up. These forums are quite helpful to people like me.

Goatwater found it. I just adjusted the front hood bumpers up a half turn and the noise disapeared.

Good to hear that you are not hearing anymore squeaks. I forgot to mention that once this is check for hood alignment with the front fenders. If you are astickler for detail seening your hood protuding above your fenders may drive you nuts.Just lower your hood latchand your rubber stops until you are silently happy.

I had the same problem until I wrapped electrical tape around the hood latch
