air intake

to get the loudest sounding intake, what is the best to do. a cold air system, or just having the air filter directly on the trottle body.

short ram will be louldest, or directly on throttle body. .... cough ::ricer:: cough

but i get less power than the cold air right??

cold air will usually get you an extra horse or two, but the throttle responce wont be as good as short ram.

does that mean the shoter ram is better cause mine is almost directly on the tb.

I would go cold air, you have less low end, but high end will be better. You dont want your car to be too loud, cops watch u more. Plus cold air intakes have a cooler sound. I switch between the 2 all the time (bc of rain).

cold air is overall better; but if you can get cold air into a short ram, that is the best(usually using some sort of shield to divert hot air from being sucked in). there was an article somewhere on hondalife.com that talks about intakes and such.

my car is loud as hell; straight pipe, free flow muffler, and short ram intake, cops dont even look at me lol.

i like the intake sound. i would like to make it as loud as possible.

If you have a muffler, you dont have a strait pipe.

what are you talking about? straight pipe=no cat, resonator, pre-silencer, etc. etc. no muffler=open header/exhaust.

The loss of low end hp or delayed throttle response with CAI is bs. If you're racing or drive like you stole it, your foot hardly leaves the accelerator anyway. I have that cool intake sound on my front corner and on the opposite rear corner of my car I have that cool exhaust sound, and the higher I rev the louder it gets. I can't hear too good so it's only loud to me if I miss a gear... I try not to do that... LoL

strait pipe= no cat no muffler... just a strait pipe from front to back. Open header= you dont have an exhaust you just have a header.

i disagree, everywhere ive looked where they listed they have a straight pipe they also list a muffler; even the muffler shop(USA Muffler) said the striaight pipe uses the muffler. my auto tech teacher said the same thing(veteran on performance engines; from v8s to inline 4s). a straight pipe is exactly what it sounds like; a pipe that goes straight from the header to the muffler. i dont want to argue over something this small, but you can search around yourself. also it seems pretty pointless to just have a pipe with no muffler or anything going to the back; might as well have an open header. btw if its not a straight pipe; what is it called when you have a pipe that goes straight to the back with minimal bends?

both terms originated in the 60s before catalithic converters. People would have a new exhaust ran without a muffler and it was refered to as strait pipes, and has nothing to do with the bends in the tubing. Open header is not the same thing, alot of older headers and some new ones came with two outlets off of the collector tube, one was ran to an exhaust and the other had a cover over it witch would be opened when you raced, thus spawned the term open headers.
