AEM Brake kit?

Had someone from another forum, (CarolinaHondas.com) tell me to pick up an AEM Brake kit. Said it was the best bang for it's buck. Is it a reliable brake kit? Anyone know what one is going for roughly?

it's a great mod really. but you have to consider if if you're just getting it to have it or if you really need it. do you auto-x a lot? do you do mountain runs or any of that?

honestly, as nice as an upgrade as that brake kit is, i wouldn't spend that much on the brake system unless you really need it, or just have that kind of money to just squander around. i rode in a prelude with the kit on and that thing just stops on a dime, and did so time after time with little to no brake fade.

also keep in mind, your brakes are only as good as your tires. the brakes may be able to stop the wheel from spinning, but if your tires can't grip the road, you may as well have stock brakes. food for thought

I will be running Falken tires, grippy enough I guess. And yes I go home to upstate NY a few times a year so being able to control the car on those winding backroads is a plus. But it's a great place for spirited driving though. Also I just drive my car hard and was told before the engine gets beefed, you should worry about the way you will stop the car. It's not like I have money kickin around, but I feel it's a necessary upgrade. Thanx for the reply.

Yeah just the turbo. What about the intercooler? What about instilation and tuning. And btw, you did see it says nubee next to my name right? I don't understand when someone comes on here for information, there is always one smart ass who has to make the other person feel like an asshole for asking a question. :flipa:

I wouldn't say that AEM big brake kits are the "best" bang for the buck, but it seems like an interesting investment. As far as I can tell, bigger calipers and rotors are only more effective at high speed braking rather than low speed braking. Most of the time when owners feel a significant difference at lower speeds, it's because of the new calipers and new brake pads. However at high speeds these bigger rotors and calipers do help substantially. I should say that is would be an absolutely sound investment for the high speed Solo I Autocrossers.

But for the rest of us? The stock rotors and calipers are quite adequate, I've noticed, for Solo II AutoX. New Brembo rotors and brake pads would have made as big of a difference as a big brake kit in my opinion. I guess also that my biggest beef with the AEM big brake kit is that you do need bigger wheels to accommodate the bigger rotors. More money in addition to that two grand you just spent on the brake kit.

Yea, im not trying to put anyone down, im slimply stating my opinion. If you dont like it, dont ask! Anyways, a few months ago i was going to get a brand new Greddy Turbo, with intercooler, for 2250 shipped. BRAND NEW! and there are other brand turbos you can get for under 2500 with intercooler, blow off valve, and turbo timer. Installation, tuning, not sure. But you have to consider that with the break kit as well right? Anyways, its not a smart investment if you ask me, im trying to save you some money kid, dont knock the hustler

Honestly the only reason I'm on this forum is to learn, but I guess I'm the smart ass. Anyway back to what's important.......lurker rex- so you do think I should just upgrade my calipers and rotors? just a side note, but ive herd that AEM is going to discontinue their big brake kit, so if you run into a good deal i'd jump on it

you could get a lot of weed for $2000. just ask ricky williams what he spent his $8.9mil the miami dolphins gave him as an advance bonus on. weed.

i don't smoke, but it sounds better than bitter arguing. i agree tho, bigger rotors and a turbo kit much better than a big brake kit. you have to deal with the price, the installation, and new wheels and tires. too expensive.

installing them urself inst that bad, took me 5 hrs for my rotors but thats just becuase i had to drill off the 2 screw that held them onto the hub
