So I have a friend that just got a bone stock 99 GS-T in awsome condition w/ 55K miles or so. And basically, he has just about no money to spend...so, anyone have a budjet but quality way to get it up to par. His goal is 275HP, so I was suggesting a 14B like I have in my car. Any suggestions for a path he could go?

yep, just cut his BOV dumptube today, and ordered a Joe P MBC, an autometer boost gauge, and a Dejon intake. He should be set for now...would you suggest that i remove the boost control solenoid asap like what i did with mine, or just leave it on until he gets the gauge?

why is he going to cut the dumptube and then put in a new intake? ..or do u mean dejon tools UICP?

Your friend probably would need at least a small 16g turbo to reach the 275hp goal. It shouldn't be hard to achieve that w/ a 16g and a well-tuned car, however. He's looking at probably $1000 or so, buying used parts.
a 14b could easily reach the 275HP mark, secondly their is no need to get a MBC if your running the stock turbo. the car can boost 15 psi stock and you dont gain any flow by taking it past that. but it will shorten the life of the turbo. check www.POSracing.net for kevins write ups on the home depot intake and some pics of the homemade exhaust(possibly a write too, not sure if its their yet). i also built my own exhaust. parts and aproximate cost along with some pics are in the link in my sig. something else he should look into is atleast a aftermarket UICP. and lastly ill be the 3rd to say it. go hit up www.vfaq.com. show him the website and tell him its his new bible. ;)

Nope i live in Wy.;)
joe mathews:
i agree i should have been a little more careful with word choice, a 14b cannot "easily" reach 275WHP. i was going on the ASSumption of BHP since he didnt state either way in his post. and with the proper supporting mods a 14b will "easily" make 275BHP. but once again "easily" was a poor word choice and i appologize. as far as trashing a turbo i have done the same mods on my GSX running the stock turbo and never boosted past 15psi. regardless his first mod should be a boost/vacumm gauge.

been on vacation for a bit, but yea, he did get the dejon tools UICP, and his boost gauge just came in, and looks like his turbo is healthy(11-12psi). I stuck my T-25 back in mine(sold the 14B for $250 to some guy :evillol: ) for gas mileage, and the fact that i wanna save up for a 16G myself. Hes been reading on vfaq and dsmtuners and now has a pretty good idea where hes goin, although even I have a long way to go as far as knowledge of modding goes, so we're in this together i guess. Thanks for the advice guys, and if anyone ever has a 14B(for friend) or a 16G in good condition for sale, PM or AIM me, cause I have to resort to good used turbos, im straight up budjet...
