97 Tahoe Steering

Looking for some clues. The steering in my 97 has got really sensitive. Especially on the hwy. I have really no feedback in the steering what-so-ever. Power steering fluid and pump seem fine. Steering is just way too easy. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
Thanks

It may have the EVO steering system that's supposed to make it easier to steer at low speed. Do a search for EVO problems, I think some have fixed the problem by disconnecting a connector

I took my tahoe in and mr goodwrench changed the speed steering sensor. It definately fixed my easy steering.

Gosh, now that you mention it, I've just been putting up with it on my '97. My thought is that it might be the shocks...(my truck is 7 years old...yep about time for new shocks!)
I'm certainly going to look into the whole EVO situation. I dont mind the sensitivity a whole lot, since i usually hang on with both hands...However, it becomes concerning in the snow, when you're trying to avoid quick jerks and less-than-smooth steering.

Thanks for the info! I will have them check that out. There is difinitely something wrong because I know when I bought my truck in April it did not steer like this. I like having some feedback in the steering because it makes it too easy to lose it on ice and snow and gravel. My wife almost put it in the ditch on pavement. Thanks Again I will post again to let you know what happens.

There is a sensor on the steering shaft that went bad and when I got to highway speeds the truck would react very quickly to any little movement of the steering wheel. It felt like I was on Ice. The steering ratio is variable by the speed causing this sensation. The new sensor fixed it but that was several years ago now and I think it may be going bad again. I think the sensor may just be a variable resistor (pot) that maybe if disconnected would keep the steering ratio contant atleast rather than changing all the time. This is just a hunch I have no experience with that so try at your own risk.
