any body know of any small little DIY mods that could maybe help in HP GAIN or sound,

heck even air gain ? ? ?

let me know

I hear if you add a racing stripe to your car it adds about 20 HP to the wheels.

funny i heard 35+ horsepower and lb/ft of torque, man those racing strips are cool, if you have a civic or sol, look at you airbox and right infront of it is this black curved pipe with a box at the end, pull it off, its only glued, 20+ HP gains!!!!! (sounds like adds in ebay)

running without an intake pipe, and running just headers, seems fun and illegal

Take out your resonator, it'll add a little more air flow.

ok resonator would be ?

un sorry im not really one that knows much about engines and shit like that.

also any body want to buy some coil overs ?

hahaha thats what i mean, the resonator, hmm yea i guess the intake could be called a black curved pipe witha box at the end, i meant the resonator - its in front on the filter box. - but if you want you could just take off the hole intake and put one of those cone filters from autozone right on the intake manifold, my friend did it, its ghetto, but works haha

so filter only no pipe ? i dont understand,

i understand the filter and the tubing but are u saying just to connect a filter to the intake manifold ?

where is it gonna get its air from ?

correct me if im wrong, but the resonator is the muffler looking thing between your catalytic converter, and the muffler...right? i think thats what civicspoon meant

there are two resonators one is in the exhaust one is attatched to your stock air box. Oh and taking off your intake piping and attatching only a filter to your throttle body is a stupid idea your sucking in some of the hottest air in your engine compartment.

oh i see....thanks for the info

i was thinking of using black robber tubing running from the intake manifold towards the bottom of the engine bay, and kinda have it set up like a mustang or a focus would have it set up,

what the F%&(* is a resinator ?

tomsindahizouse
10-18-2004, 10:07 PM
the resinator is what they call the cheap-ass that cant either afford weed, or is just too cheap to buy more...so he scrapes the resin and smokes it. (it happens to all of as at one point or another)

The resonator on the intake is the black rounded part behind the bumper that hooks to the bottom of the air box. Its there to muffle the sound of the stock intake

Just asking, if you have more tips check out:

Intake resonator removal
Ignition advance (w/ timing light)(high octane gas only)
Oil change
Tranny fluid change
Wrap intake with heat reflective material
You can do a weight redution

You could build a cheap ass cold air intake our of pvc piping if your desperate enough.

if you look at your air box. thats not just the intake, theres a set of tubing under that. take those tubings off.

PVC will melt and give off toxic gases, metal pipe is what i think you meant.

tomsindahizouse
11-05-2004, 07:39 PM
OEM is PVC, ABS, or whatever you want to call it.......PolyVinylChloride=Plastic, ABS=Plastic
Plastic wont melt in the engine bay as an air intake. Dont try to make headers out of spare milk cartons or that will melt, but i think it would be fine with PVC/ABS tubing if your desperate. If somebodies really worried about melting, use a higher SDR and you should be fine.

MrCas
11-07-2004, 11:23 PM
im pretty sure its ABS.

lkailburn
11-08-2004, 01:20 AM
pvc does give off toxic gases when its heated. so depending on where you live, it may get hot enought there for the pvc to release that and thats not cool lol.

don't do pvc piping, just buy one off ebay for like 20 bux and do some weight reduction if you want free speed

why not just put a damn intake on and a high flow filter. buy a tornado if you want to save some gas. and putting a filter directly to your manifold is pretty retarded...

go to borders or whatever book store you have and pick up honda tuning books and read. knowledge is power and its better you get it from a book rather than some people on this forum. lkailburn is right...go to ebay and buy a col air intake off their if you are looking for a cheap upgrade. also get a new exhaust starting with the muffler, piping, catalytic convertor, and finishing with headers. if you want exact pictures and detailed descriptions pm me and ill be happy to help you.

Think of how much weight you have tied up in your interior. Its not really doing all that much either. Remove the back seat, passenger seat, flooring, and siding, and if you really want to go wild take out the windshield and back glass so wind can go through your car rather than over it. While your at it remove the catalitic converter, muffler, and resonator(s) not only will you get more flow through the engine but you and all your buddies get cancer too! When 4th of July rolls around go out the an Indian reservation and buy yourself some rockets and strap those to your car too (remember to point them back). Finally get some cardboard and duct tape and make as many wings, tails and other surfaces as you can. This helps with air flow and drag. :lol2:
*Please dont do any of this, I am mearly making fun of all the stupid stuff I have seen in life. Though I do remember seeing someone on this board somewhere mentioning using a pringles can to help with air intake, or something like that....

haha nice reply M&M, anyway back that intake business, if you are making your own, a metal pipe will get relly hot easil so ceramic coat the in and outside.

I made mine out of schedule 40 I think PVC and it held up fine, after a few montsh of using it I did notice it had been distorted a bit, oblong in one foot secton where it was closest to the actual engine, but didnt actually melt at all. and worked good for mw, but it was still like 15 bucks when I was done and ebay you can get one for like 25, just got my CAI for 40 shipped for my GSR

make your car go faster.. get rid of stuff you dont REALLY need.. get rid of your A/C, get a torch and cut off all the extra underside of hood, someone mentioned the back seat.. dont drive your friends around tell them to get their own ride... then if you have a sun roof... gank the motor, I'm sure you could glue a handle to it =P oh and you probably have lots of stuff in your trunk so grab a trash can and play some basketball. As for a spare tire and jack and all that jazz.. invest in triple A and there goes all that weight too.. Last if you want to be really hard core pull up everything on the floor of your interior and pour dry ice on the floor boards and hit it with a hammer.. 80 pounds gone.. give or take some.. if you do that your my hero

power steering.. get rid of that too it weighs alot. And get plexy glass side windows they weighless.

Maybe wont add any hp, but will reduce engine clatter if you do it correctly, valve adjustment, pretty damn easy. Break out the haynes manual, figure out how to get the engine to tdc, then make sure you have a valve spacer tool(a "feeler"). and then adjust all the valves.

Make a Paper-mache' body for your car, and rip out that aluminum/steel/fiberglass body you have now, then replace it with the paper-mache'. Just don't drive in the rain. Also who needs that heavy stearing colum? Rip it out and replace it with a Vice grip. Speakers, Radio, Radiatior, Lights, Get rid of them all. That huge fuel tank that last a whole week weighs too much so replace it with a clear plastic water bottle. Just remember to get out regularly to check how much gas you have.
Then again you could always fill your car with Lead and push it off a cliff. Probably go faster than anything else you could do.

Throttle heater bypass. Take the tube running from your radiator to your TB and the tube that exits the TB and loop them together so that hot radiator fluid doesnt get to your TB. You wont gain hp but youll keep from loosing it as your engine wams up because it will keep your throttle body cooler. You will also notice some improved throttle response.

Also speaking of throttle response, adjust your throttle cable, just unscrew, move a wire, and screw back and BAM! instant throttle response.

Also remember adding things like stickers adds at least 20hp and decals that belong to another make of car is +30hp....so make sure you do this to your Honda Civic SE-R and your Mustang Type-R V-Tec
