I heard they get up to 157 tops, is that true or is there any kind of rev limiter on the automatics??

I've never taken my SL to the max before because I've been too scared of my tires shredding or cops pulling me over. Yeah, I'mma chicken-butt. Hehe
But umm Stealth, I just checked out your little link down there and your ride's lookin' good bro. I like those rims of yours. And your engine bay looks sweet!

93 base 3000GT here. i've got mine up to 120, but let off. A mechanic friend told me they are electronically limited to 125. Of course, that's what he said about the 93's, i wouldn't doubt a 94's top speed to be higher. Also, check out www.hskusa.com, they have an SLD (speed limit defencer) that can supposedly remove the speed limiter.

I took my VR-4 to about ~135. Still had a good bit of power left in it...too scared to go much higher though. I've read opinions on both ways saying that there are speed limiters and some say that there aren't it's just the aerodynamics don't allow for higher top speeds with stock power. Not real sure on who is right and wrong.

The US models did not have speed limiters.

The US models did not have speed limiters.

in that case, then its most likely because of the lack of power of our stock NA's / VR4's that we can't seem to get our cars over 120/135mph, respectively.

Anyone else reached 154 like Tearzrsnow? I know he had to have a bunch of mods, 1) to reach that speed on a NA, and 2) b/c he won 2nd Place Drag racing Fwd @ 3s National Gathering 03

Post the top speeds YOU have reached, including the mods you have!

my friends stock base model has been up to 140 and still climbing, my vr4 has been to 160-165 when it was stock. Now I can hit 160 in 4th gear.

I've been up to 140 in my 95 SL, only mod that could be construed as preformance would be the drop in replacement K&N. You guys sound like your shifting at like 3000 rpm, it takes a long time to geet going fast when your engines runing a normal speed, when I decided to go up to 140 I was shifting at like 5-6 which gives a good purr but not nearly red-lining it lol.

I got my 94 base up to 130 and stopped climbing cause I suffer from some wierd high oil pressure problem that I cant seem to figure out. my pressure maxxes out at 3000rpms, its not supposed to do that till like 4000rpm. also I heard the autos have a higher top speed then the manuals.....dont know if its true though!

a guy that used to work at 3sx got his N/A ATX up to 155 before. Also, the ATX's last gear is similar to the first gen vr-4's last gear, so they are geared higher for top speed than a FWD MTX.

'93 3000GT base ATX. got mine up to 140 before letting off. I still had the pedal to the floor, but it took a long time to get faster as the MPH grew. And it wastes a lot of gas!

Where the heck do u hit 140 at anyways? it would be my luck a cop would catch me.. but ive only gotten mine up to 90 :)

I got my 99 3000gt sl up to 135 mph on just a flat straight country road and my 98 vr4 up to about 143 mph on the same road, i was runnin out of straightaway with the vr4 so i had to quit accelerating, another 30 seconds to a minute and that vr4 would still have been going probably around 155 mph or so.

some have compared the North Dallas Tollway in Dallas, TX to the closest thing in the United States to the Autobahn in Germany. That's where i was able to hit 125, and where anyone could hit 155+...just make sure its aroun 1 or 2am, and there's no one on the road...just a LONG straightaway!

I've taken mine just on 150mph off road of course and its hairy i can tell you. it was still pulling tho, i'd hate to know what exactly it will do flat out, i would say in the 160's on the guage who knows maybe more. its hard to know how accurate the guages are at that sort of speed.

I've been up to 155 before in my car, then I slowed down.

Heh, I plan on getting a very acurate speed reading by puting my handheld GPS up on the dash and runing it up real fast and looking at the max speed I hit to within a tenth of a MPH, I would be intersting to see how far offf the stock speedo is.

hey im new to 3g gt forum and i drive a 93 honda (poor college kid) but i know enough bout 3g gt to know that they sure as hell can go faster than 120....especially 93PearlVR-4 ...i hope you still had power to go at only 135...you have twin turbos!!! hell my car (accord) is ecu governed at 115....and i can do that in 4th gear....5th just gives me better gas mileage ;) .....the speedometer says 160 or 180 i believe in the 3g gt....doesnt necessarily mean u can top it out depends on the car and if its governed....mine says 130 and i hit 115....and sure you can get a chip to override the governer and the rev limiter..... as for StealthModifier i would take ur car out on a country road and just let the fucker fly. im from the country and there are FEWER cops and find a nice long straight stretch and just open it up. i wonder what people think when they see my accord doin 110 down the hick country road passing mustangs and camaros just to piss them off lol

Long country roads become very short when trying to get above 150. Just a little FYI for everyone, drag is exponential, and it takes about 2.5 or 3.5, I cant remember, times more power to go 150 than it does to go 100. But you also have to factor gearing into that.

Ive gone 110 in broad daylight on a sort of busy highway. It wasn't a big deal and i could tell she wasn't about to let up anytime soon.
