'99 Sienna power door problem

I've reviewed the various entries on this subject but can't find one that addresses my specific problem: the door will open properly using any of the "door open" buttons but will not close--all I hear is a clicking sound when any of the buttons are pushed again. I'm assuming that the relay to "close" is working but the motor is for whatever reason not receiving the input.

Like the rest, I'm reluctant to take it to the dealership. but at the same time, the little ones are having to enter through the left door as they can't manhandle the manual "override" now in effect.

Any thoughts/recommendations? Many thanks.

This is happening to me as well. It's the computer, according to the dealer (they wanted $900 to replace it). There is a 'tech bulletin' on it, according to the mechanics sales-droid I talked to. This is near SF, california. I'm hoping to pick up a computer from a wrecked one.

I have a 2000 Sienna with the same problem. Sometimes by repeatedly hitting the driver's button, I can finally make it close. Sometimes I have to fight the motor and just force it to close. That must be damaging the motor and/or drive system.

Since the door never fails to open, I am guessing that something is telling the door that it is being blocked, and so it reopens every time I try to close it.

The dealer says that it's the controller, and wants $500 to repair it. I really hate that.

This happend to me too The dealership wanted to charge me 1000.00 to fix my door { it would open but wouldn`t close }
This upset me so bad ..They told me it was the ECU going out thats a "computer part" . well my husband called a junk yard and found the part for my sliding door It was a ECU but a different type well anyway it cost 200.00 not 1000.00 from a dealership and the part reporgrams its self back .
you have to follow the steps from your manual for it to restart its memory.
The door works better than before . I`m so happy :)

I am experiencing the same opening and no closing on my pwr door on a 99 Sienna. Did yyou ever solve your problem??? One dealer runs a diagnostic and says the problem is the ecu and another dealer says it's a optic sensor problem. Both are asking $1700 +.

I wouldn't trust the dealer. All they want is your money. And this is a very good opportunity for them to rip you off. The ECU is less possible to go bad. My guess is a sensor mis-alligned or an open loop in the circuits and caused the problem.
