when you recirculate the BOV the MAS already compensates for the air dumped back in so your car runs fine... when you vent the air that was originally dumped back in doesnt anymore and the MAS doesnt change. so it still thinks there is more air entering the motor so you run rich... not worth the troubles like your car stalling at intersections, blowing smoke from running rich. the best way to do this is put a 3-3.5" GM MAF in the upper intercooler pipe after the BOV and run the MAF translator so now it measures the correct amount of air entering the motor!

Yes, DSMlink, AFC, etc, dont do anything to let you vent the BOV. You need to change the air metering system. VPC, MAFt, AEM, etc.

how much does the gm maf translator cost? and does someone sell just the adapter that i could get the maf sensor from a junkyard?

the translator is about $200 unless you can find it on ebay for cheaper... some people on dsmtuners sell them with the GM MAF sometimes for $200.

yes you can get the MAF sensor from a junkyard!

www.fullthrottlespeed.com is the main vendor. They also have a forum at www.fullthrottletech.com. You cna see pics of it on my setup, on my page (www.posracing.net). Click on the link in my mod list for the 3.5" UICP.

Eh? All you need to do is zero out everything on the MAF translator and use dsmlink to tune with. Simple as that :)

It looks like there is a plug on the side of that, what do you plug into that? Is this like a plug & play deal, like I buy the part, install it and drive on????

The sensor has to have a plug on it so you can use it, just like your stock sensor plugs in. Only in this case you plug it into the translator, then the translator plugs into the cars MAS plug.

i was venting my greddy for ages till i actually realized I was venting it, lol. not too much of a problem during shifts, just play your gas pedal/clutch timing right and you shouldnt notice too much of a jerk.

So you would still need to by the translator?

what would the effects of this mod be on the engine and HP/torque?

Yes, unfortunately. :( You need both the GM MAF and the MAF translator for it to work properly on our cars. If only the GM MAF were all we needed that would be beautiful...$40 and we could vent flawlessly. Alas, this is not the case.

On a side note, I heard a very nice WRX drive by with what sounded like an Apexi BOV...I heard it from about 100 yards away, and it was louder than my recirc'd 1g from inside the car :(. Then I remembered Kevin's video vs. the WRX, and just smiled :grinno:

i vent and have been venting for a while and have had not too many problems. i was getting backfires for a while but after getting the bigger turbo and SAFC it is gone...

You would see very little power on a near stock setup from a MAF. Especially with smaller UICP piping, and on the stock turbo. I wouldn't consider MAFt until I had a FMIC.

i hope for their new version they intergrate the translator into dsmlink, i know they've been talking about it for about a year now. i've held off buying both dsmlink, and a translator to see if there going have it in their next version. i've had the ecu and the maf for about 6 months now. and im getting tired of looking at them on my desk. sigh

What do you want integrated? Most people can set the MAFt all zeros and tune in DSMlink "like the good lord intended" -Kevin

They are talking about it but it wont be happening any time soon. For on they dont want to compete with the translator guys. Two, there is a lot of work that goes into mapping out the output characteristics of the sensor to get the correction curves, and all that data will have to be stored somewhere in the ECU. I personally dont ever see it happening. The translator is only 200 bucks on top of it, so I dint really see the point.
