Blinking CEL in 2000 Trooper

Here's a challenge for any Isuzu mechanic, professional or DIY.

When I first start my 2000 Trooper, the CEL comes on and blinks only when I step on the gas pedal. If I turn the engine off for about 10 seconds or so and restart it, the CEL goes away.

Anyone have any ideas? It's got Bill Gatton Isuzu stumped...they couldn't find any codes, even when the light was blinking.

Thanks much.

A blinking CEL = a misfire. Make sure you have denso spark plugs installed. Other brands will cause a misfire.

and do not continue driving with a flashing cell it will cause catalyst damage (that can be expensive)

I am using the correct Nippon Denso plugs; I had the dealer put them in some time ago after I tried using NGK.

Here's what I have observed:

I start the engine. After about 30 seconds or so the CEL will blink only when I hit the gas. I stop the engine for 10 seconds and restart it. The CEL no longer comes on. This morning I drove less than 0.1 mile after starting it up for th first time today, the CEL started blinking (again only when I stepped on the gas pedal). I immediately stopped the engine, counted to 10 and restarted the engine. The CEL didn't come on again. This is a consistent pattern.

When I had the dealership check the codes about two weeks ago, their computer showed no misfires and no misfire history. They told me to just keep an eye on it. This started after I had them clean the EGR tube in the engine. They contend that this had nothing to do with it.

Help!

Does hte light come on at 2000rpm and go off below 2000rpm. I have run in to this before if some one tries to force the throttle plate open with the key on. If you disconnect the batt for 5min (- cable) the problem should go away.

ask the dealer if they have hooked up to ICS and checked for freeze frame data sometimes things are caught there but DTC's wont show up in history
tekk them dont use TECH II and ask for the most experienced tech that is familliar w/ Isuzu or bring it to Lafayette Louisiana and I will find your problem
