Last night when my gf and I was going to grab something to eat, I noticed while in neutral that if I stepped on the gas, there was some kind of noise that would rattle. Not really loud but I it was there...and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Any ideas on what it could be? I thought it was coming from the dash somewhere but couldn't confirm for sure....

I hope this helps guys, my car did that exact same thing one day, I parked at work and heard a very dim rattleing sound, the PCV valve had gone bad and the rattleing was coming from the valve inside. first check for loose change and other stuff in you glove boax and center councel. then pop the hood and rev it using the throtle body switch, listen for the sound, if its coming from the top of the valve cover then put you finger over the pcv valve and rev it again. if it is the pcv then you should feel the rattle inside. its like $7.00 to replace. hope it helps if not then let us know so we can keep diagnosing.

the throttle body is in the very back its like a little lever with a wire by it you pull it to rev the engine. the other one i have no idea.

Its not stupid bud, all of us had to learn at one point or another.
follow your intake hose, the intake bolts up to the throttle body. on the throttle body there is a small lever with a spring attached to it. when you accelerate the cable tuggs on the valve and causes the car to rev. you can replicate it by just opening the valve itself. the PCV valve is on top of the valve cover. its usually a coper cylinder piece bolted onto the top left-side of the valve cover.(the side where the intake goes.)
Ill post some pics in just a bit. give me alittle time and Ill get em up

here is the throttle body. Its the unit to which the intake bolts up.

this is the throttle valve, just push down GENTLY on the tab that the arrow points to.

and here is the PCV valve. its the copper piece. this valve releases presure from the valve cover but it breaks once in a while. just use a wrench to unscrew it. very simple.

Okay, so I finally had a chance to check the rattling noise yesterday and it seems to be coming somwhere from the manifold area. I put my fingers on the PCV valve thing but I couldn't feel any rattling inside. Any other ideas? Thanks.

where exactly in the manifold area? it could be alot of things, towards the top, bottom, belts or intake???

if you hear it from the top of the engine then it might not be the bearing, but yeah if it is then you should get to a mechanic soon. can you more or less narrow it down to which general spot its coming from? i.e. belts, valvecover, intake ect....

Yeah, I'll try. It's just that right now, it's raining and I usually get off work/class late and by then, it's too dark for me to really see anything. But I'll try again as soon as I can. The rattling noise isn't super loud and only kinda rattles when I step on the gas. But yeah, I'll see if I could be more specific on the area....thanks guys....
