1997 Cherokee Electrical Problem

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country that has two electrical Problems:

1. Right Hi Beam will not work. Trouble shooting done is as follows:
A. Checked fuse - OK
B. Check one side of fuse to ground have 12 volts DC.
C. Volt meter across fuse 0 volts.
D. Checked voltage at headlight 0 Volts.

Looks like i have a ground issue within this circuit. I do not have any Electrical digrams to trace the wires from the fuse box. Does any body have any suggestions as to what I should do from here???

Note: left high beam works.

2. Problem with front running lights. Same type of issue as above.
A. Checked fuses OK.
B. Check one side of fuse to ground have 12 volts DC.
C. Volt meter across fuse 0 volts.

If you put one volt meter lead on each side of the fuse, there should be 0 volts across the fuse. What you are measuring here is a difference in potential between each side. The fuse is good so the difference is "0"

To check the whole headlite circuit, turn on the head lites then read and write down the battery voltage. Now put one lead on the positive post of the battery and the other on the lead for the right high beam. This connection should give you a "0" reading. This indicates a "0" resistance in the circuit from the battery through all the components to the headlite. If the reading is the same as battery voltage, then there is an open (infinite resistance, same as switch off) in the circuit on the supply side (this is basicly what you did when you probed both sides of the fuse). If you have more than about 0.025 volt reading on the milli volt scale but less than battery voltage then there is a resistance (bad connection, corosion etc.) on that side. To find the location of the problem, keep the one lead connected to the positive battery post and move the other meter lead to other connections on the positive side of the circuit. Once you have moved to a place where you again get "0" volts reading, you know the problem is between the location where you had a higher voltage reading and where it is "0".

Now do the same between the negative post of the battery and the ground wire for the right headlite. The reading on the ground side should also be 0. If there is any reading over about 0.025 on the ground side, then there is a grounding problem. Loosen and retighten the ground screws and check the crimp connections on the wire ends.

I don't think you have a grounding problem because you said that there was 0 volts at the headlite connecting wire. I suspect that there is a relay for the high beam headlite on each side and for the low beam on each side (4 relays) and that is the problem.

Does the right lo beam work?

I had a similar problem with my Nissan P/U. Mine was the hi/lo beam switch. Best bet is to get a Chilton or Haynes manual. My Haynes has some pretty decent wiring diagrams for my '88. Then you can "swim upstream" from the headlight as JD is suggesting.

Did you check the headlight? If OK check the wiring the bright headlight wire + side of volt, ground - side of volt.The wiring harness runs over the radiator to a junction just under the battery. My whole junction block was corroded causing a no right turn signal. Might check=! it is for lights too!

I´m trying to install achiptuning kit for more power and I need the diagram for the 60 pin connector for the engine computer -
