What kind of faces are you putting on? I wouldn't touch the needles AT ALL, becuase it could mess up the calibration

I'm taking the needles off to get the faces off so I can replace the dash bulbs

whoa whoa whoa, you don't need to take the faces off to get to the bulbs...

look on the back of the cluster, you should see five brown receptors. they will turn left and come right out. that's how you change your bulbs. They should be the bigger receptors holding 194 bulbs.

I can't take the whole cluster out, its like stuck in and I don't want to pull it too hard I'm afraid to snap a wire or something...

what you do is, is pull the cluster out like, an inch, and pivot it toward you (like fold it down), you should then have access to the back of the cluster

its on there really good, I can't even get it out an inch to pivot it down cuz its on really tight im afraid to snap a wire or something

Did you take out all 4 screws holding in the cluster? If so, it should come out enough to fold down.

DJ Hotpokit

took out all four screws, its easy on my friends civic, it just came right out, but it seems like there are some wires behind it holding it on or something :(

try to slowly work it out, don't yank, but just wiggle it around, and try to get it out enough to folt it down.

I got all the lights in and they look super kick ass all blue and stuff, except one problem, I like didnt put the black thing around my gauges back on all the way so now when my headlight brights light is on, it makes all the other lights (gas light, etc. etc.) come on too and it makes my whole dash look all ranbowy and stuff cuz like I get the blue, and all the orange and red lights :( I'll take it back apart tommorow and fix it though, thanx for the help :-D

hey I been thinking about changing the color of my dash lights too. I was scared I might like crack the plastic cover, that would suck! But could U like tell me how U did it, step by step!

Tools Needed: Phillips head screw driver

Step 1: Take off the plastic pieces surrounding the steering column. (4 or 6 screws on the underside of the piece.)

Step 2: remove the black plastic piece surrounding the cluster (the piece with the "SECURITY" light on it.) (4 or 6 screws, easy to see if you get low, and look up.

Step 3: Wiggle the place piece out. It might seem kinda stuck in there, but if you wiggle it enough, it will come out.

Step 4: Unclip the "SECURITY" light harness.

Step 5: You should see 4 screws holding the cluster in place, (two on the top, two on the bottom), remove them

Step 6: Wiggle the cluster out about an inch or two, and fold/pivot down the cluster towards you. At this point, you should be able to get to the bulb receptors holding 5, 194 bulbs.

Step 6.5: If you want more room to work, just unclip the harnesses holding in the cluster and take it out all together, but this is not neccessary.

Step 7: Go in reverse and put everything back together.

Dunno, only sat in a P11 for about 30 seconds in the dealership. basically the same principle as my other instructions though, just keep looking for screws on or near the piece you want to take off, and un screw them.

thanks Swonder, your step-by-step really helped me out :)

has anyone else tried to replace bulbs at other spots of the car (perhaps A/C panel, shifter, etc.)?

thanks

Yeah, the light on the shifter (PRND21) is a 194 bulb also. If you're looking at the shifter, you'll see a plastic piece like a ring around the shifter, you should be able to stick your fingers in there and "pop" the piece off, no screws. if you can't get your fingers in there, try using a flat tipped screw driver and pooping it out. then you should see the receptor holding the 194 bulb. the AC unit is the same principle, but not the same bulb. I think it's a 74 bulb for the AC unit.

Just a little info:

On the 91-93 P10, there is a speedo cable that connects directly to the back of the gauge.

For 93.5-96 P10, the speedo info is sent electronically...soo its a little easier to get the cluster out.

Warning to BE CAREFUL on the 91-93 (or SE-R) if you have in and pull the speedo cable out, it can be a bitch to put back in and people have had one hell of a time.

definitely, that's why I told them to wiggle it out slowly. and not yank it out.

are those the little tiny bulbs with the plastic base? I've been dying to replace them...I did my dash lights(194s) months ago, but I didn't know where to get those little bulbs(couple of mine are dead)

I have a question sort of on topic....the clock on the tach....does it, or should it light up in a P10??...my gauges light up red now...but my clock doesn't light up at all..it's been a while sinse I took it apart and I can't remember if there is a bulb burnt out that I forgot to change or something...

anybody know?

check with your local Infiniti dealer's parts department. they should carry a HVAC light bulb kit. i got mine from Infiniti of Scottsdale for 10 bucks, [http://www.infinitiofscottsdale.com]. now as for your clock, it sounds like the bulb might be burnt out. time to bust out the phillips head and start screwin.. err, unscrewing. :D

damn! I knew it.

do you remember if the the clock bulb is only for lighting the clock?
like...can I keep my speedo, tach, and all that red and have the clock a different color?

Thanks..

Yah its one of the smaller bulbs, not the 194's. I believe its the 74's as said before. It's the same bulb that lights up lights like the seatbelt, cruise one..etc etc..

So if its burnt out and you dont want to get another one, just swap it out with one of the cluster bulbs that you really never see...like the "low fuel" light...ive only been so low on the tank to see it once.

The clock has a "blueish" tint to it already...soo i dunno if you can make it a diff color. Try it!

yeah I just finished ripping my dash apart and putting it back together...I don't know how exactly I'm gonna get my fingers in there to take out the dead bulb for the clock...I tryed for a while but I can't pull the whole cluster out.. only a little bit, and my fingers can only take so much blood loss due to sharp plastic slicing

first, I need to buy a some of those little bulbs, then I'll try again one day..

if I reach up with my arm from under the dash I can reach something that feels like the speedo cable on the back of the cluster, but I can't see it and I'm scared to guess and just pull it out...is that the only cable that holds the cluster in there? I assume it is not.

anyway..
Thanks for your help.

It'd be easier to just take out the cluster... Make sure you take out all 4 screws, and just wiggle the thing slowly till it just wiggles out.

I HEAR THAT!! I had to bend it up a lil bit then guess about where the back would connect to the cluster took me only about 5 tries but thats cuz im lucky hehe

hey its not the ONLY cable that holds it in, theres two more bundles on the left and right of the speedo, but its the one thats holding it in so tight, once you get it out the cluster will pull out about a foot and a half so you can get behind it, but yea it may be a bitch getting it back on cuz after u pull the cluster out the speedo wire just slumps down, and you cant streatch it out far enough to connect it to the cluster beforehand, you just gotta bend it up to make it centered as much as possible, and push ur cluster on and just hope that the pin ends up in the back of the speedo, you'll feel it when it does it will get all tight and stuff, like I said earlyer it wasnt that bad for me I guess I was just lucky.

thanks for the help..

I'll try again once I get some bulbs for the clock. I just don't want to f**k up my speedo...I need that more than the clock.
