College... EVO VII... or Both?

By the time I get my EVO VII I'll be a year into college. What I'm wondering is if I can afford it. My mom was all "why are you thinking of getting this car when you should be worrying about college?" I'm just asking ya'll for some opinions as to what I should do? Any input is highly appreciated. -Shaun

It'd better be a joke, man...

No, this isn't a joke. I'm sure some of you have been faced with the same problem... I'm definitely getting the car, sooner or later, but i'm wondering if I would be able to do "sooner" and what suggestions you guys have... Thanks

here's my next though... give me some suggestions according to this one...

I work at the Mariott and they pay for a little bit of my college tuition. If I take my core classes at a community college, i could pretty much have that all paid for. SO... i could get the car and take core classes for 2 years then transfer to a 4-year university to finish it all up... that's an idea.. wat do u think?

Try to find a college with like 10% guys and 90% girls. Find a girl friend there who has $$$ and talk her into buying the car. Sell the fact that it has AWD (good in the snow) and has good ABS.

D6Syxx: I'd appreciate it if you can bind your threads, for instance your (few questions) one and this one, you could of placed them together.

The reason being is that we have way too many threads that die after a few days and just rack up space, thats all.

I will actually make an announcement about this, your not the only one that does this, but your a newbie here so your ok :)

dude listen if you are going to college focus on that. Think rationally, do you have the money for college? if so, will you have enough for books, expenses and so forth. After all of that, do you have money for a 30,000 car? insurance? I dont think you need the car right away. Why dont you accumulate some money and than when you have a solid amount make your decision. Dont screw your earnings and life up for a car.

BlackevoVII: welcome back, nice to see you again :)

Oh yeah by the way, mate Study comes first.. then you'll get enough money to buy an Evo VIII or whatever comes next.

Get your priorities right, Shaun... I want an EVO VI badly, but im doing my education first, so in 2 yrs time i'll be able to pay the bastard off, in price, petrol and all the maintenance involved.

Evos are expensive, but wonderful cars that need special TLC. (tender loving care) its not ur everyday crappy sedan..

SO SCHOOL FIRST!

I'm a Music Major....I'll probably be making no $$$ with the job I want....does that make me stupid?

I say live life to it's fullest. I'd rather be in a ****load of debt, have an Evo, and have a sweet job, than have a ****load of $$$ and have a job where I work in a cubicle all day.

If you're seriously asking this question... I'm kind of wondering what kind of college accepted you.
Heh.. all in good humor. But seriously, college first. a car is nice... but it is temporary. Sooner or later a new car will come out, or a nicer one, or you'll get tired of it. But an education will last much longer. Get an education, make big $$$, and you can buy 30 Evos.

Hmmm.... Well I got a sweet job out of HS. I am a CSA/NSA/Web Developer/etc etc for a Honk Kong based company with over 500 employees in the division I work in. I am 23 yrs old. If you happen to land a good job out of HS, make sure you follow up and take some courses related to your field. I dont believe in going to a 4 year college unless you absolutly have to and are dead set on a career that requires it. Most do not. Granted, I may make a few k less than a degreed employee on the same job, but I am 100% debt FREE. Beside, in a few years when work experiance overcomes the lack of formal education, I will be in the same payscale as everyone else. (plus all that I have saved by not paying for college) I have friends who are paying off college still and don't have any money left over. Must be fun. My wife and I combined earn 6 digits

Oh yeah...My company allows me to take 4 hours a week off payed to go to school for my posisition

My field is online production/web design whatever you like to call it and im not doing Uni/College either, its simply too expensive and I choose not to be paying it back for the next 5 years.

Rather, i've chosen to do a lower degree course(s) which in the end I will have the same level of qualifications as a uni/college student, without the payments for the next 5 years.

So in 2.5 yrs, Come to 'papa EVO :D

hehe lucky you. i have a 4.0 right now in highschool.. and this is an accumulated 4.0... i've had it since freshman year and i'm just about to finish up my sophomore year... IF I get a good scholarship I might be able to get the EVO sooner, rather than later.

Question to you, Lancerz... That EVO VI vs. the TT Supra video on your site. Does that EVO VI have NOS or any other mods? Glad we could settle our argument... I dig the site.. u got a good thing going on there... late

lancerz
02-19-2002, 10:46 PM
lol an Evo VI with NOS, that would be the shit. Probably blow yourself up.

As far as I know its a RS, thats why it hammered the TT Supra. I dont know the real history of that clip.

D6Syxx
02-19-2002, 10:54 PM
I don't think the person in the Supra knows how to shift either.. because if you listen closely... everyone seems to be yelling "F***ing, Mike!" or something along those lines... What is the RS over the normal EVO VI?

Hey guys just please answer the guys original question and don't beat around the bushes. He asked college, evo or both. The simple answer is BOTH.

Sweet and simple.
Didn't any of you guys go the college OR school at all? :)

violinandy

if you can afford it, both, but if it means skimping on your education, or going to a bad school because thats all you can afford, forget about the evo.

No we didn't go to school, notice our poor spelling skills and punctuality?

Both - so you want to go to College, and afford a high performance car at the same time? your the one that needs to go to school and learn about something called money.

Amazing that you take such offence at the smart-alec response. Too bad School/college didn't emphasise (British spelling) too much on common sense or sense of humour. Or the fact that proper punctuation,.,; and speling is not a compulsory on the internet much less a newsgroup. Not very keeping in spirit. but good old fashioned flaming is.

Oh did I mention about my college education, my property investmentS, my job or my silver evo7 purchased with my own hard-earned money? Don't assume and please, as moderator, keep your sense of humour/humor.

No offense taken but tot you should know.

Couldn't resist this but - yup, school did teach us the importance of being punctual and proper punctuation:devil:

Hey thanks for the warm welcome back lancerz.

In reply to hooby and the guy who said the poor and dumb statement.

Living life poor and dumb could be stupid but if you are poor and dumb in essence you could be stupid, for not trying to better yourself, but we all know that doesn't always happen.

Anyhow hooby id rather have a shitload of $$$, work in a cubicle wth a job i love, than be in debt with a nice job and an evo.

But i an see where you are coming from with that. I have alittle over 20,000 and regardless of how shitty my job is right now im getting the evo. I dont care. I haven't had a car since my first car at 16. im 21 now. I think i is ready for change. I would rather struggle for the Evo payments than not have the car of my dreams. Well im soon to awaken and the dream will be reality.

[quote]i'm going to college and will be completely debt free upon graduate. i go to a state university paying $3,400 a year. information systems and business management double major. expected starting salary for an is graduate from my univerity is $60,000 not counting signing bonuses. i also plan on eventually going to grad school though not right away.

hell my dad's 50 and still plans on going back to school for another master's degree. and he's already making $150,000/year.[/qoute]

not another all the education in the world , but cant do my job worth crap, I hope. College freshies bug me for some reason. Not saying you will be like this, but a lot are. with as much time as some people put into chool, you'd think they would be able to handle their positions.
again, no offense to you.
money ain't all of it either. don't get thinking it will fix anything that might be wrong or make much better. It is nice to be debt free and have a savings, but thats about as far as it can take you. My wife and I make about 100K combined. We live off about 40K of it. I drive a 95 GTI she drives a 98 Mazda. we live in a two bed room apartment.
(of course, i want an evo, she wants a new car, so the cars will change soon...) I'm only 23. I need no more, and don't want the pressure of a higher position ... for now...

College or a new car...

Let me put it this way: college does not insure that you will make any money. It's a fallicy perpetuated by people who want you to go to college. At 19, I was making more money than a co-worker that had 2 Bachelor's degrees. How stupid did she feel? Very. She was also in debt about 35000, while I owned everything free and clear.

This is not to say that you won't do fine but I want you to be prepared for what a lot of college grads experience. Many of them do not even find work in their field, and after a while, their degree is obsolete because the field has changed substantially while he/she was trying to break into that field. 'Look ma, I just wasted $50000 on a worthless education!'. Good luck to you, but I've found that poise and professionalism can get you just as far (unless a degree is a requirement) in the real world as the degree itself. I would suggest you take a good, hard look at your college motivations, and do what you feel will best serve you in the long run.

To clarify; I am NOT bagging on college! I have simply found too many people out there that go to college with no real goals, then they get out with a degree they don't use and a buttload of debt, to boot. Maybe living in the real world for a couple years will give you an idea about how you want to spend your time, as there is always time to go to college.

As far as buying an Evo; whichever way you decide to go, make sure you can afford it. Put money aside for maintenance and repairs before you purchase, as you never want to be out of money to fix a minor problem that can turn into a major headache if not fixed in a timely manner.

Sorry to ramble; I've been very opinionated lately.

Find what you want to do and go for it. I fit REQUIRES college, go through it.

It was in response to your post, but not directed towards you. (if that makes sense)

It all just depends on what each one wants out of there lives.

I am happy where I am at. I could always find a use for more money, but do not feel a need to have more. Things that are too easily attainable seem to have little or no personal value to me >> money will not make me happier.

I guess I took your comment out of context.....I'm sorry.

You shouldn't have said that in the first place though. It was a dumb comment to make, perhaps you should be the one growing up.

I never said you could get a "sweet job" right out of high school (although you can). I said I could get a sweet job with my education....I want to be a music producer....in my opinion it's a sweet job. It may not necessarily pay a lot, but it's all that I've ever wanted to do.

i dunno if that freshie comment was directed at me but i'm a junior graduating in may 2003 and will have an evo at age 21 and 0 debt.

also i don't plan on going into IT which does not require a college degree. you don't exactly learn IT in college. i plan on doing more business oriented work which usually does require at least a college degree. if i decide to go back to school it'd be for my mba which many companies pay for. and even if i had to pay the tuition myself the average STARTING salary of a graduate from an mba program from a school like nyu or columbia is around $110,000. i can pay that debt off easily within a year.

Are you paying for your Evo with Cash?? If so, congratz, but otherwise, you won't have 0 debt.

Average starting salaries don't mean jack. I've got about 20 friends that just graduated that will tell you the same thing. Nothing is garaunteed.

My whole thing is....I don't really care if I have a lot of debt right now, just as long as I know that I'll be able to pay it off, which I can and will. I go to a $25k/year college so either way I look at it, I'll be in a lot of debt after I get out of college.....might as well add an Evo onto it. I make enough $$$ now as a full time student to pay for loans, insurance, and an Evo (including $$$ for repairs), so why not go for it? Even if it means being in debt....
