No Odemeter or speedometer and tranny problems

After changing the battery on my 1995 olds cutlass supreme 2 days later while driving suddenly I have no working odemeter or speedometer and if feels like tranmission is skipping gears but the check engine light only comes on after driving for awhile when it comes on the tranny feels like it its driving better. the car only has 99000km on it so I don't think it is the tranmission Please Help
