vacume pump

When i start my truck there is a very loud hum that comes from what i think is a vacume pump. it is located on the pasenger side attacheted to the fire wall. it is prety loud the dealership just told me it was fine. when it start driving it goes away. if anyone is or has had the same problem i would like to hear about it.
