Just bought a 94' SL. The car is bone stock pearl white and i'm looking to begin the modification process asap. The first mod i'm going to do is wheels/lowering. Anyone have any suggested drop/wheel size combinations that they've tried or seen. 17's are alot cheeper (obviously) i'm just affraid they will look too small on the burly GT. Anyone have pictures of there lowered or factory 3000 with 17's? Please post pics or email me. Thanks alot.

Id take pictures of mine, but the wheels are black and its kinda hard to see where the wheel ends and the tire begins in pictures. When its lowered I think 17's make the car look mean. 18's or 19's have more bling factor, 17's have more of a racing look.

For wheel sizes get 8-9 inches wide, 8 is stock on your car, 8.5 on the vr4. Your looking for around a 35mm offset. With 17's you want 245/45R17 tires, and for 18's you want 245/40R18. You can go with different sizes, but those are what stock tires in those sizes are.

Hey bro, welcome to the forum. How much did you get your car for? How many miles? Sunroof? Got any pics? If you do, you should definitely post 'em. :)
I have a '94 SL as well and it's lowered with Eibach springs--1 inch in the front and 1.3 in the back (I think....can't really remember anymore). But yeah, having it lowered makes it look a lot better because it closes the huge gap between your tires. I'm planning to get rims in the future (probably a LONG time from now) and have been debating between 17s and 18s...don't know which one yet...

The car has a salvage title from a front passenger collison. Frames in good shape and it was professionaly fixed. I payed $3800 for the car. No sunroof but all the other options. It's a white pearl with black leather interior. Power seats, CD Changer, cold A/C, etc... the works. I like it alot. I love the pure power of it. Not like that ricey Vtec power at certain RPM's. The car just always pulls like crazy. I'm very pleased so far.
Slade, do you have pictures of your car lowered with the Eibach's. I'm not sure a 1" drop is worth $250. I know it handles alot better but i'm big on looks, and drag racing, not so much with the technicalities of handling and body roll.

You should get 19's :) i think that size looks best, since the wheel wells are so huge

Yeah bro, here are a couple pictures but you're gonna have to copy and paste the link onto a new browser because geocities won't let you directly click onto the link. But yeah:

I have one that shows directly the side of the car back at my apartment, but I'm at work so I won't be able to post it until I get back home. Hope these will work for now....and if you want to see the other one, let me know and I'll post it later.
Wait, I just clicked on it and it went through so maybe it's just the direct image linking that's not allowed....I dunno... :p

Stealth, isn't there some type of ratio or something when getting aftermarket rims that if it's too much bigger or whatever it's not good? Hehe I thought about 18s but 19s are way outta my income bracket I think...which is at 0 right now.

i havent heard anything bout a ratio, but i know my tires are about 1/4 shorter than the stock ones were, but yea 18's & 19's cost more than 16's & 17's ... almost 1000 bucks more.... my rims an tires added up to $1800 ... but when i got bigger rims the guy at the place told me it will handle better with them

Well, I ordered my wheel and tires today. I ended up going with the 18's. Double five spoke gunmetal wheels with 235/40/18 tires. I'll let you know how they work it. My next mod is definetly going to be lowering springs. Still trying to decide between Intrax/Eibach/and Ground Control coilovers. Any suggestions???

I've used both Eibach prokit and GroundControl. much more happier with the Eibachs. Althought the ground control kit comes with Eibach brand springs, its a pain in the arse to get the feel just right. you could lower the hell outa the car and set the shocks to like level 3 stiff but then you'd have to spend tons of mullah in allignment and camber correction! with the pro kit and some good ass nitro shocks I get better feel and spend less money correcting camber. also the pro kit will last you longer, the GCs kinda for the enthusiest who wants to swap in new springs every year or so! choose wisely

A little late, but as far as rim size...17s are generally considered the best for drag racing, the larger you go, the more rotational mass which means the more drivetrain loss of hp. However, the larger you go the better handling you will get on dry ground...but you will also feel alot more bumps on the road. Also, I read somewhere that with wet roads or snow, 17s generally provide the best traction....just a few bits of info.

Anyone have any pics with eibach or ground control installed. I'm eventually gonna get the bomber kit so does anyone have any pics with a body kit and lowering springs?

I dont like the body kits on a 3000gt unless its the one on the 800 hp 3000gt
