I have a 1990 chevy lumina 3.1 car! it was stalling before as posted in my other posts! anyways we changed the spark plugs, fuel filter and pcv valve. The car starts and runs fine except it idles irretically.....
If u put it in gear and press the break pedle the idle will go up and down and then stall....... and when u first start the car it will rev to just over 2000 and then drop down...

The thing is that it was stalling before we did this minor tune up but the idle was never like this!!

is there something i could have screwed up in the process when i was changing the spark plugs that could have caused this?

any suggestions on what it may be?

thnks in advance!

Doubt it. F.I. engines usually stall because of a lean condition (too much air), especially at startup. You need to find the cause. Dirty IAC, throttle plate deposits and vacuum leaks are the most common causes.

You could possibly have knocked a vacuum line off. That up and down hunting for idle speed is common as they try to overcome a vacuum leak.

did you unhook the battery to clear the computer after tuning it up? The car needs to do a re-learn so it recognizes the new parts. The ECM re-calibrates itself to compensate for worn plugs, wires, etc... and may run worse after a tune-up if the computer isn't cleared. If that doesn't fix it, follow Jeff's advice and look for a disconnected vacuum line.

well he disconnected my battery at some point..... we followed peoples insructions in regards to warming the car up in drive for 15 mins and then we took it for a long ass drive and it helped a bit but my idle still isnt back to what it was before.......its still idling at 1000 when u turn the car on and ur in park but when ur stopped in drive it drops to between 700-800 is that normal?

but its not stalling anymore so thats got to be a good think
