hey all i never really worked on my 240sx engine yet to the rebuild point but i've read lots of stuff on different engines, and now im wondering if i can make my 12 valved 2.4L into a 16 valve, do the cams come off or not and is it possible to put em on somehow ?

All the 2.4L were 16v. just FYI. It is just that the 89-91 have single cam and the 92+ have duel overhead. but both have 4 valves per cyclinder. so no. But I believe there is a way to make a ka24e into a de but you still have the same block.

The sohc 89-91 has 12 valves.

Oh $%*&, so sorry *wack* hits self with paper. I always thought the only diff was single and duel. well then if you put the head from the dohc like I mentioned which is doable. then it would be 16v I can;t remeber when i read some guy said he did it but I know I heard it never seen it though. I feel so Noob.

lol, that gave me a bit a more clear view, thanks man, if i get alot of replies on this, that'd be great, when i get the cams, i can port/polish them maybe, and along with that i'd prob need a new fuel pump, new ecu, electronic ignition, injection parts... what else ?

No, a DOHC head will not fit on the SOHC block.

Sorry but I believe the 16valve head doesn't fit the 12valve block. Just pick up a ka24de, they're cheap. You could get it complete for under $500.

how much do ka24de go for anyway? i am getting rid of mine. it runs great, but most likely it will need to be rebuilt because it has 143 thousand and some miles on it.

actualy I seem to recall some one putting the DE head on the E block, you can't just swich them though, took some fabrication and probably wasn't very relyable. You're better off rebuilding your sohc, or buying a dohc.
