Has anyone mounted a 383 stroker to a 700R4 tranny and had it hold up , Would it hold up ? I know a guy who has one for sale with like 90K on it for 1,500. Complete engine , from water pump to flexplate.

I have a 383 LT1 hooked up to a 4L60-E (which is bascially the electronic controlled version) and I added a Transgo Shift kit and Corvette Servo and the tranny has yet to give me a problem but I don't have to many miles since the engine was stroked

If you build them properly they will hold up no problem.

Really depends on what the 383 stroker is making for power. The average torque a 383 will make, with a stock 700R4 you will prob be ok as long as you don't try to launch it with DR's or slicks.
But a 700R4 can definetly be build to take it with DR's or Slicks.

I don't want to put any more money into the car really than I need to I want the power and the street legal side of it too so I don't think anything over 450 HP will be coming out of any of my engines. If the 700R4 can handle that , then sweet I'll beef it to about 400 - 450 tops and let 'er ride from there. But I am more worried right now about appearance , I got a crappy dash pad , primer all over the place and a scratched tinted window.

with 400-450hp on a stock 700r4 I wouldnt expect a long life out of it..Depending on how you drive.. I know my tranny quit last summer at 180,000kms on a stock 350.. And I dont see many other 5.7's around here with the original tranny..
Just to be safe, ide get your tranny built before you drop everything in..

A few gears have been changed out to go for higher HP , I'll have to look through my mountain of paperwork on the car to see exatly what they 'do' or don't do. I know 3rd and main drive gear was swapped with some racing crap from taylors transmissions and accessories. I know it had new bands put in and I had a shift kit put in but I don't want to throw 400 hp to it and watch the engine rip my tranny through my car. Another concern of mine is rear end gears , I think I will get a 12 bolt rear end and a forged drive shaft or high torque drive shaft 140K psi or something.

I still have much research to do..the real question is why do I keep dumping tons of money into the car that I am trying to sell or trade off ?

For a driveshaft go to dennys driveshafts. They have nitrous ready driveshafts that are in cars with like 2000 hp. Youll never break that thing and if the welds break they will give you a new one.
For rearend I would go with an 8.8" ford.

the 12 bolt rear end requires 2-4% less power to drive that the ford rear end. but 8.8's have there advantages too

Ive always found that 8.8s are more efficient and quieter than the 12 and 9 bolts?

go with a built 200r4. pepole are putting them in there bigblock chevelles for an overdrive tranny that holds up to the power. Hotrod did a writeup on them awhile back ago.

Remember if I am doing this so I can keep it street reliable and legal.IF I am going to put a pure racing tranny in it then it won't be good for the daily driver part.
