Difference? a Cold air intake (CAI) is a type of air intake. it is an intake which draws its air from a place that is expected to have a cooler air temp than the ambient air tempature in the engine compartment (ie fender, bumper, scoop, etc). there are also Ram air intakes and shorty intakes. Ram air intakes take their air from an area of high pressure ie. Grille, cowl, scoop. ram air is "sapposed" to allow the engine to flow bwtter and remove any vacume that may be present in the intake manifold. but often they do nothing more than offer the cold air effect. a short intake's theory is to draw air from a spot as clost to the engine as possible so that thir is less plumbing to cause a pressure drop in. you usually dont see many of thoes around since they offer about the same gains as just replacing your air filter with a new higher flow air filter. CAI is the most commongly found in the import/sport compact scene.

CAI, WAI, RAM Air, all have almost the exact same effect on HP. Only difference is the price you pay.
