Is it illegal to flick off a cop? There were actually times when I was doing the limit, and driving safely, and I see a cop on the side of the road with a laser gun. I just wanted to stick my finger through the sunroof soo bad. Is that illegal? Is there anything they can do, if you're obeying the law?

prolly the only thing that they would try would be public indencincy (definatly didnt spell that right), i would think tha would be all, and the fact that the cops in the area would be waiting for you to screw up so they could bust you, thats all

what about honking at a cop?
ive had a cop pull out in front of me and the only thing i could do was lock up the brakes. nearly hit him too.

the only way you could get in trouble for honking is if you lay on the horn. if he almost caused an accident let him pull you over, u have your reasons to honk and you let him know why.

for giving the cop the bird you can get assalt on a police officer,(happend to my friend) also fyi the same goes for pissing off a police dog when they are in the back of truck, in that cage thing, trust me its true and it sucks ass. but if you fight it in court its easy to get off of.

I wouldn't flip off a cop, theres just no reason to take a chance.
I know about cops pulling out in front of people though. I was driving one day and i was doing 45 in a 25 and as i come to the top of a hill, this cop comes over from the other direction and does a u turn right behind me and in front of my friend who is following me. my friend hits his brakes and turns right, clips the right rear of the cops car, bounces over the curb, through the speed limit sign and slides through a muddy field where his car gets stuck. Needless to say, i got out of the ticket.

Well, I always thought it wasn't assault until I actually looked up the word.
as·sault:
1 a : a violent physical or verbal attack b : a military attack usually involving direct combat with enemy forces c : a concerted effort (as to reach a goal or defeat an adversary)
2 a : a threat or attempt to inflict offensive physical contact or bodily harm on a person (as by lifting a fist in a threatening manner) that puts the person in immediate danger of or in apprehension of such harm or contact -- compare BATTERY 1b b : RAPE
Well, giving someone the middle doesn't imply harm. We all know what it means. So I'm still a little ify about an assault charge but people have been arrested for bullshit crimes before. Why stop there?
Although, no matter what, its never a good idea to give a cop the middle finger. Cops, as we know, can make your life a living hell. I always try to be respectful because showing respect will get you into less trouble than mouthing off to a cop.

The smartest thing to do is not mess around with cops. If you hate them for whatever stupid reason you do then only talk about it, dont give em the finger, don't piss of their dogs, don't do anything against them. You may hate them but once in your life they'll do a good thing for you.

You say that as though they're out specifically to get you. It's not like they can gauge your speed by simply looking at your car. I don't get insulted when the cops point their radar at me when I'm doing the speedlimit, I just drive by normally because I know he is doing his job.

The cop is only doing his job... what if someone broke into your house would you want to flip him off then when he shows up to investigate?
and as far as it being legal...you would more then likely get arrested for disorderly conduct.

i am a police officer in NY and you would probably get arrested for disorderly conduct....
as far as cops being on power trips when they are in uniform and that they would not care if they are not in uniform and not on duty......
1. A police officer is always on duty
2. You would not have flipped the cop off if he is "off duty" because you would not have realized he was a cop.

I hate cops!!!!
1. Most of them abuse their power and do everything they want when in uniform.
2. My friend got shot for no f*cking reason, all the cop got was 3 years in prison 2.5 years after sooting the guy(hope he gets raped in there for shooting a 13 year old kid) the guy would have been 17 now.....
3. I asked a cop what is their stick (to fight) is made out of, he got it out and started threatning to beat me with it, WTF????
4. They speed but stop ppl for speeding... Where i live on high ways people go maybe 10 over the speed limit, but cops still stop who is going same speed as everyone, and then when they are on a high way, they don't go 65, instead go just like everyone else at 75 mph!!!
There are some cool cops though, once that don't give tickets for 5-10 mph over and stuff like that.
cousintoddster, cop on a car forum i am sort of surprised, i though all cops hate people who like fast and pimped out cars especially imports with exhaust systems. Hope you are one of those nice cops, not the once i mentioned previously in my post.

you whinner are amazing, do any of you have a clue what it is like to be an officer? I doubt it or you would be dissing them like this, do they pick on young people, I hope so because they are the ones most likely to get it to an accident and die, think they want to meet your parents and tell them they just came from the accident scene and are sorry to say their child is dead, what they don't say is it was because they overdrove their ability in a car someone so inexperianced had no business driving, not a one of you will understand this until you have children or when a cop steps into a situation and saves your life ....... get your head out, yes there are assholes out there, just like any other proffesion, but for the most part they really do care about you, your just to busy being an ass to understand that ...... ok, off the soapbox

actually "A battery (Penal Code, sec. 243) is, essentially, the willful use of force or violence upon another. This means, any physical contact with another person, to which that other person has not consented. An assault (Penal Code, sec. 240) is basically an attempt at a battery. " as cited from http://www.criminallawyerla.com/crimes.html#assault
Were you to flip off a police officer, you would not be attempting to use force. On the other hand, in my opinion, if you honetly want to flip off an officer, you deserve whatever they can and do charge you with. "Never bite the hand that feeds you", or in this case the hand that keeps most of the killers, rapists, child molesters, theifs, and drunk drivers away from YOU.

I know some of you say that the cops are just doing their job and things like that. But in some towns the whole police force is dirty. For example I used to live in Statesboro, Georgia, the cops there do abuse their power, most of the city police drive wrecklessly and I have had several cops pull over so I could tell them that what they are doing is wrong. I also met someone who worked for the city police and she said that the cops steal drugs, do drugs on duty, things of that nature.
I am not saying that all cops are bad, my uncle is a police chief in Mississippi and I have soo much respect for him because of what he does. But there are cops who are on a power trip and they are more dangerous than a 3 year old with an automatic weapon. Also if anyone on here has connections that can do this, investigate the Statsboro, Georgia police department, I have heard very bad things.

I think you are all missing the point. What kind of a moron would flip off a cop? Do you want him following you around and waiting for you to screw up? Or maybe you want him to pull you over and search your car?
About 2 hours ago i got pulled over for no good reason. The car i was in was a bit beat-up but it wasn't too bad. The cop said he saw the car swerving around, and the door open at an intersection. Well, the car was doing the limit and it did not swerve. I had to open the door because my friend was in a car next to mine, and that door's window doesn't work.
Once he pulled us over, he asked how much we had to drink. WHAT?! Drink? here is a better question f**k face, what did you drink cuz i would cut my arms off before i drove drunk. Anyway, he was extremely rude about the whole situation. The cop's buddy looked like a super-trooper as he shined his flashlight through the car's windows. Then they decided to call for backup, and get a K-9 unit because we looked 'high'. Well, that pig would also have red, glazed over eyes and would look tired if he did an honest day's work.
Eventually he let us off with a warning for improper lane usage and rudly asked if we were OK to drive. 'Why yes officer, im so fu**ing high on life that i can hardly walk straight...' Oh, and the bastard cracked my license clean in half, right through my picture before he let us off, and said 'You should get a new one'. I don't think he was very happy about not finding anything on us. Afterall we were nothing but teenagers, and you know how teenagers love to drive drunk and high. You can work as hard as you want in life, perfect 4.0GPA, be courteous to your fellow man, enjoying a nice clean life, but to a cop you are nothing but another greasy know-nothing teenager.
I don't want to hear your crap about cops being concerned about my health and safety. Maybe a few of them are. Firemen are the real heros who are concerned about us because they don't have much authority to corrupt them. Remember, absolute power corrupts absolutely. If you are a cop, you are nothing but a domestic terrorist and a bitch that performs a higher power's dirty work. How can you sleep at night?
btw, clawhammer - go flick off a cop. right now, go shove your middle finger in front of his face as you look him in the eyes. see what happens. anyone who asks a question as stupid as yours deserves to get a darwin award.
There are stupid questions AND stupid people.

I'm not quite sure about that. I would think it's the other way around. They abuse their powers. A good cop with a heart will let you off with a warning much easier than a corrupt cop who abuses his powers.

Ok ive been in court for doing this actually, and the answer is simple clawhammer....flipping off a cop is PERFECTLY legal. I was charged for doing 67 in a 55mph zone. So when the cop came too teh window for my drivers lisence i figured welp 67 in a 55 charge that is just BS. so as i get my things out i flipped him the bird, well he decided to ad a verbal abuse charge to teh list,i took it too court and the judge ruled that the flipping of the bird was NOT against the law anywhere, the cop argued with the judge and the judge flipped him teh bird and told him to sit down! lol. i payed my ticket and left. Later that day i flipped the bird to a cop working radar just to SEE if hed do anything, sure enough he pulled me over, i asked him why he said i was speeding?! and i said bull crap i knew i wasnt.....LONG story short, its NOT against teh law but you better believe there going to use it as an excuse to FIND something else to charge you for so they can get even, wouldnt you if you were a cop?

wow this thread just got WAY off the topic, just to touch base on sometihing, the AVERAGE cop out here hates his job and couldnt caer less if he caught anybody, hes a normal joe shmoe working to get a PAYCHECK at teh end of the month jusdt like everybody else, most have famalies to go home too and usually want to GET home to see em. There are some who abuse there power but get with life fellas and ladies, your manager at work abuses his power, if you put anybody in a position of power whos never been in one before. that person is gonnna abuse it like theres no tommorow, the only difference is when a cop gets a big head he can also write charges, doesnt make it right but its a stain on all the cops who are doing there job right, dont judge em all based on a few bad apples, cuz 9 times outta 10 you did do someting wrong. the other 1 time it was a power hungry prick of a cop that pulled you over but dont judge the other 9 of em who did and you did somethign wrong. far as the other 1 bad cop so to speak, chalk it up to life cuz its like that everywhere

Besides Dirty cop = willing to bend or break rules without abondon, sells you "dope" <-- (only cops use that word, and they get the best kinds), and tell you when and where you can speed. Clean cop = Cop w/ moral, lets you off for shoplifting a candy bar after you apologize and pay for it, and only gives you a "warning" about speeding.

What about saying "Fuck You"? The other day at school I was accussed of gang violence so the cop and one of the Assistant Principals are basically interogating me inside of the A. Principals' office.
When I didn't admit being involved (I wasn't) the cop started swearing at me, demanding I tell the "Fucking truth".
I started to say fuck you but I thought there was some charge, so I just said "I am telling the fuckin truth"

saying fuck you is a form of verbal assault, technically at leats in virginia you can make a citizens arrest on yoru boss if her cursed you. happend before. flipping the bird to you might mean something totally different to anotehr person, especially from a different country. that main reason why theres nothing wrong with it, for all the otehr person knows you were pointing at teh sky. but verbally sayhing it, then you can be cited for verbal assault/abuse, not a huge fine but not something you exactly wanna sit in court over
