Despite knowing Pioneer makes a better HU i went for the Sony (got a fair amount of amps and speakers backing it so it sounds pretty nice actually) and the one thing that is getting to me is that in order for the video in to work the parking break has to be on.

Now I understand this is a safety feature, but I would really rather get around it somehow. So the way it works is that a wire runs from the HU to the parking break and attaches to some point that lets it know the the break is applied. Is there anyway to get around this without having my parking break light on all the time (because I do forget sometimes).

I am guessing the parking break closes a ciruit when it's on that applies a certain voltage that the HU picks up on and allows video playback, anyone nkow what this voltage is and how I can tap into a similar always on voltage? Or disable this feature?

OK so im guessing that you didnt install it yourself, anyway yea take off the plastic trim around your Ebrake, figure out how the switch works it might be connected to the switch taht turns the light in your dash on( its a reverse button, when its up its connected and the light is on, and when its depressed, the light is off), If so find the wires they put in and twist them together that is prob how it is. play around with it untill you know you got it right. hope that hleps

I did install it myself, I actually ran my whole stereo myself and tore the car apart doing it. I just have never come across this before and wanted to see if someone had already done it rather than futz around and try to get lucky. I read on another forum that it just needs to ground so I will try taht first as it should be easier than taking out thewhole center console.

well if you did it yourself then why did you do that step - where did it hook up to? If you got in from crutchfield then you have instructions, find the step that doesnt involve audio or video cables and skip it.

my parking light comes on even after a couple clicks, jsut enough to where theres no pressure in the line to brake the car, but still has the brake on

I didn't do that step because I knew I didn't want to have video only when I was parked, so why bother when I would just have to open it up and do it again to get it how i wanted? Also I dont relaly like taking out the center covers, dunno why it just seems a pain.

I also figured since I have a ground, a 12v feed and a (I believe 3v) amp feed and a ground I should just be able to wire it into the harness and take care of it that way.

I really don't want my break light on all the time, it's not clean and I do accidentally leave it on sometimes, don't wanna drive around with it on by accident because I am used to the light (and yes I know you can feel the brake is on, but I have found myself going 4 or 5 blocks before with it on before i realize).
