Arm rest broken!

I purchased my 2001 Aurora 2 weeks ago. I had mentioned that the armrest was loose or broken before purchasing the car (It is broken) and the sellsman told me he would have it taken care of. They had asked for it to be changed, but it was never authorized. Now they are telling me that it would cost $1000 to replace it and they don't want to unless it was written in my contract before hand. All that was written in my contract by the sells person is that the arm rest was loose. Does a verbal agreement mean anything anymore??? I feel like telling them to take the car back.
Any suggestions for me. I'm going back next week to get my steering wheel repaired. It is pretty stiff.
Thanks.

I believe so. I like the car very much and I would hate to give it up because of an armrest, but I'm also tired of being taken for a ride.
Inputs appreciated.
Thanks.

$1000!! They are taking you for a ride! (mine is also broken but I am waiting to find a good junk yard one) I expect to pay $50 and put it in myself. It can't be that bad?? What would a body shop charge to do it? I am guessing $100.
Also- take it up with the owner. Sounds like fraud to me.
